What a tragedy...God bless the family of these fine Officers. What a great loss to the Birmingham PD. It is every officers nightmare to lose a comrade...I can't imagine losing 3 on one incident. I am glad to hear that the suspects were apprehended. Good job tracking, and safely taking into custody the monsters responsible.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time-

It's so heartbreaking and hard to understand how someone could just take away a precious life. My heart and prayers go out to your family. To your wife and child, I know words are not much comfort and the pain is like a knife cutting in your soul but may God hold you in his arms and comfort you like only He can. And thank you Officer Bennett for your dedication to this city and to it's people. I am humbled by what your life stood for and May God watch over and protect your family always.

I just want to convey my condolences to the family and friends of Officer Bennett in this time of unbelievable grief. I know you must be totally in shock over his senseless death, but please know that there are people out here praying for you that somehow you will be comforted and justice will be done. I, for one, don't often note my appreciation for the job police officers do in putting their lives on the line for us ordinary citizens. My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you. May he rest in peace in God's loving arms.

In His Arms
David Echols - 6-18-2004

They dedicated their lives
To protect and serve
A life not known for glamour
A life that requires steel nerves.

Their day had been rather typical
A day like many others,
Serving their public and city
Service alongside their brothers.

As their day winded down
They had just one more task
To serve one more warrant.
Who knew it would be their last?

Doing their best as they always did,
Shots rang out in vain.
Lying on the ground
Three officers had been slain.

Risking their lives is what they did,
Making peace for you and me.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For His children they shall be.

No greater love is there,
Than to lay down your life for your friends.
This is what these officers did
Until their final end.

The prayer of every officer
Is to go home at the end of their tour.
They have all gone to a new home now,
Resting in His arms for sure.

So Lord as you welcome them,
Into your Heavenly bliss
Please let Curly, Roger and Robocop know,
They will always truly be missed.

To the Bennett Family,
No words can ever be enough to comfort you in your time of loss. However, may you fine peace in the knowledge that Charles is in a better place waiting for you to once again be together. May you always remember that Charles will always be there with you, watching you, and guiding you. He will live forever in your memory.
To officer Bennett,
I know you are in a better place brother, watching out of those of us still on watch.

I did not know Office Bennett personally, but I saw him in Wal-Mart or the grocery store and he always had a caring smile to share. Even though I know just like everybody else in this world that has to get up and do a tough day at the office. But every time I saw him he never failed to share his smile. I believe with all my heart that, that smile was a "Christian Smile". May God comfort you, Mrs. Bennett and your daughter too. Please make sure she knows that yes, her Daddy will be there to walk her down the isle.... Right there in her heart!!! I will always remember your family in our prayers!

I just wanted to write this reflection for the three officers, their families and the entire police department for which they served. The town I live in has only lost 2 officers in it's 250 years, however, one of them was my father and I know how painful this time can be for everyone involved. I cannot imagine the pain of loosing all three at one time and I pray that God will watch over and bless your department and the families of these officers. They were wonderfully brave men.

My heart goes out to the family survived by Officer Bennett. I hope that his 4-year-old little girl will always know that her daddy is watching over her from a place where he can always protect her. I hope that Mrs. Bennett knows that the good people of this city are here to support her in anyway. I hope everyone that reads this will say a special prayer for this family, especially as Sunday is Father's Day.
Have peace in knowing that Officer Bennett is a hero, and I know in my heart that God has a very special place in Heaven for all heroes who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
To the surviving officers: Be strong. Lean on each other for strength. Lean on this community for strength. We love you and thank you for everything you do.

A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER

Lord I ask for courage

Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...

Courage to take me
Where others will not go...

I ask for strength

Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...

I ask for dedication

Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...

Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...

And please Lord

Through it all
Be at my side...

This senseless act against the three brave officers of Birmingham PD causes us all in law enforcement to step back and realize how dangerous our jobs are...but do it anyway. Because if we don't form that line between the good and bad of society, who will? That line, so thin yet so precious, is so much thinner today with this loss.

I appreciate the passion these men held for the safety of their assigned beat. "No greater love" it has been said before. My heart breaks for the families, right here at Father's Day. May God provide His comfort for you during this time of great loss.
