All the men that day are truly missed by family and friends. Officer ROB sBennett left behind a wife and beautiful young daughter. She has grown into a very smart and strong and very compassionate person. Willingness to help other kids going through personal struggles and especially ones who are experiencing personal loss. She is there tioò listen to them, offer support and advice she is going to become more involved with the local chapter for COPS.she is very passionate about outreach to children for slain officers. Knowing how cards and small items make mpact on the grieving families. She is a very smart very mature for her age. She is an awesome kid. I am proud of her and her father off Bennett would also be proud of how outstanding a person she is growing to be. We love you Robert and never a day goes by we don't think about you. We miss you baby sooooo very much!

What a tragic event 11 years ago. Rest in peace brothers.

Steve Van Slyke, retired officer
El Cajon Police Dept El Cajon, California

June 17, 2015

I have noted that on this date, in various years, multiple deaths occurred due to single events. How disturbing that so many can be taken at one time as often as seems the case on this date; 4 events, 6 different law enforcement agencies, 12 law enforcement officers.

On this anniversary of these events, I wish to acknowledge the heroism of each and thank them for their service.

May you, Officer Bennett, forever Rest in Peace, and God Bless you, Brother.

May your murder never again see the light of day.

Robert, I remember when I taught you in the Birmingham Police Academy, that you were always so conscientious. You made it a point to do the right thing, no matter what it entailed. I remember you coming to me after graduation on several occasions and asking my opinion on things. Your dedication to duty was remarkable. You were truly a hero.
RIP my friend.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 8th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

I am honoring Robert Bennett, Carlos Owen, and Harley Chisholm on this Father's Day in remembrance of my friend's father Arlyn Gort, from Michigan. On this Father's Day may we send blessings to all the families of public service officers. Though we may never meet, I honor you, and thank you for loving and honoring "victims" of callous criminals. I don't think of them as victims, but as people willing to sacrifice on behalf of those of us who are too meek, too shy, too weak....

I, like anyone who was working on June 17, 2004, will never forget the events that took place when that call went out over the radio. We had no idea that we would arrive there to find our friends and co-workers murdered. I wanted to just stop right there and say, "Ok, time out! Lets re-wind and start over, this has gone too far". I guess I was in shock because I never thought it could happen to one of us. Reality check!
I don't think anyone would disagree they were the three most aggressive, butt kicking, bad guy arresting officers in the West Precinct at that time. The bad guys knew it too. You three heros are greatly missed. Let's not forget the lone survivor of that tragic day, M.C. I hope you're doing well. God bless the families of all envolved...

Hey classmate you are still missed by so many. The time that has passed has helped to heal some of the pain of that day. However, the anger has not gone away.I still remember the last time i saw you walking in the backdoor of the precinct. As usaual you were sporting that trademark smile and friendly spirite.I just regret that our last meeting was not longer. There were still things left to discuss.I know how much you adored your family and would display such a large smile while talking about them.I know you are smiling from heavan as you still watch over them.

Just checking on you man. We used to run into each other every other weekend at the back of the jail. I was on South Task Force and If I remember correctly, I think you were on West Task Force. Either way, we always just made small talk while holding on to our prisoners, waiting....and waiting for them to be booked. Anyway, just thinking about you. Take care.

It has been 5 years since that awful day. Time has helped me heal and grow stronger as a person, but there are things about that day that are as vivid as they were on that thursday afternoon. God has been with us all the way. He carried me through all the hard times. He gave me a strengh that I never saw,but others did. I tell Caroline that maybe there are windows in heaven that you can look down at us from time to time. I hope there are. Time has moved on and so have we, but one thing still remains We miss you!! We love you and always will! We will see you again in heaven. Oh what a happy day that will be!!!!!!

I DID NOT KNOW ROB OR ANY OF THE OFFICERS TAKEN BEFORE HIM. I DID HAVE THE OCCASION, OVER THE YEARS, TO MEET SEVERAL BIRMINGHAM OFFICERS AND I NEVER MET ONE I DIDN'T LIKE. ONE THING I LEARNED DURING MY CAREER IS THAT WE ARE ALL BASICALLY THE SAME WE JUST COME FROM DIFFERENT PLACES. THAT'S ONE REASON IT CUTS SO DEEP TO HERE OF SUCH A TRAGIC LOSS. I'M LEAVING THIS REFLECTION FOR ROB AND HIS FAMILY BUT MY MESSAGE IS FOR ALL OF YOUR CITY'S FALLEN. MAY THE PAIN YOUR FAMILIES FEEL EASE WITH TIME BUT MAY THE MEMORY OF HOW YOU LIVED AND DIED LIVE ON FOREVER.

Rob this Feb you would have been 37. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of you and what we had. Our little girl is growing up. She misses her daddy, but she had now become a christian! So,one day we will ALL be together again. We miss you so much. I will never understand why this happened or why your life on earth was cut to only 33 years, but I trust God and His plans. One day we will see you again. I Love You!

POLICE OFFICER
PHILA PA

February 26, 2008

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
