A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER

Lord I ask for courage

Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...

Courage to take me
Where others will not go...

I ask for strength

Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...

I ask for dedication

Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...

Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...

And please Lord

Through it all
Be at my side...

I don't know you and I don't know your family... I don't even live where you live..but i do know your pain. Losing someone that you love, whether it be from violence or not, is one of the toughest things in life. Just remember that God is there to heal your pain and to dry your tears. May the blessed memories of your family member soothe your pain and help you in this time of need. God Bless.

The Sound of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

'Fools' said I, 'You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.'
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, 'The words of the prophets

are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.'
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

Officer Chisholm, I am so angered and devistated that this atrocity has happened to you, Officers Bennett & Owens. I have expressed my detailed sentiments to all of you and our fellow brother and sister officers in Officer Bennett's reflections. As I stated there, as a profession, we will not allow your deaths to be in vain.

I honor you, your name, your memory and mostly, for the ultimate sacrifice you made protecting the citizens of Birmingham, our great home and State of Alabama and our great Nation. You have given your "all." Nobody can ask any more of you. You are a warrior and a hero. Go rest high on that mountain . . . we will cover your post on the thin blue line.

To Birmingham Police Officer Michael Collins (the 4th Officer involved in the shooting), I want to say thank you for your gallant and dedicated efforts to protect your brother officers. I know I speak for all of us when I say "Thank God you survived the shooting and were not seriously injured."

With brotherly love and utmost respect to all the involved Officers, Jim Crotty (Former Richmond, VA Police Officer.)

We don't always understand why things happen as they do because we can't see the "big picture", but the God who is the artist of that picture can bring you comfort and peace. I pray that you seek that from Him.
