Reflections for Officer Carlos Winston Owen

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, June 19, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Charles Robert Bennett, Police Officer Harley Chisholm III, and Police Officer Carols Owens who died in the line of duty just two days ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Bennett's, Officer Chisholm's and Officer Owens' sacrifice will never be forgotten.

What a tragedy...God bless the family of these fine Officers. What a great loss to the Birmingham PD. It is every officers nightmare to lose a comrade...I can't imagine losing 3 on one incident. I am glad to hear that the suspects were apprehended. Good job tracking, and safely taking into custody the monsters responsible.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time-

Thank you for everybodys support! My dad Carlos was the best person. He was a loving, kind, gentle person. He is going to be missed more than words can ever express.I don't understand why he had to go so soon.We called him pop,all 9 grandchildren are going to deeply miss the trips to Buckeye Grocerys. He would take them there all the time to get whatever they wanted.Pop lived for his grandchildren.Pop took my kids to dance each week and looked foward to it every week.Pop always told me to hold my head high and smile and I could do anything.
Daddy, you are my shining star, you are my hero! When it comes to life thank you for the running start, and for all the words and love flowing through my heart. Daddy, I love you and I am going to miss you deeply.

I just want to convey my condolences to the family and friends of Officer Owens in this time of unbelievable grief. I know you must be totally in shock over his senseless death, but please know that there are people out here praying for you that somehow you will be comforted and justice will be done. I, for one, don't often note my appreciation for the job police officers do in putting their lives on the line for us ordinary citizens. My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you. May he rest in peace in God's loving arms.

I am from the Birmingham area and one of my best friends is a wounded police officer. It breaks my heart and my thoughts and prayers are with the family. I didn't know him personally but it touches us all. I know that words are not much comfort and the pain seems like more than you can bear but I couldn't just let a thank you be not be said. Thank you officer Owens for your dedication to this city...to it's people and for good to prevail. May God wrap his arms around your loved ones and help them understand the unthinkable and may he comfort them like only He can. May God bless your precious family now and always.

In His Arms
David Echols - 6-18-2004

They dedicated their lives
To protect and serve
A life not known for glamour
A life that requires steel nerves.

Their day had been rather typical
A day like many others,
Serving their public and city
Service alongside their brothers.

As their day winded down
They had just one more task
To serve one more warrant.
Who knew it would be their last?

Doing their best as they always did,
Shots rang out in vain.
Lying on the ground
Three officers had been slain.

Risking their lives is what they did,
Making peace for you and me.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For His children they shall be.

No greater love is there,
Than to lay down your life for your friends.
This is what these officers did
Until their final end.

The prayer of every officer
Is to go home at the end of their tour.
They have all gone to a new home now,
Resting in His arms for sure.

So Lord as you welcome them,
Into your Heavenly bliss
Please let Curly, Roger and Robocop know,
They will always truly be missed.

Officer Owens, the family, and the Birmingham brothers in blue;

What can be left to say other than you and your brothers left us as true heros!

To Off. Owens family.. you will get by with the help of your "extended" family. Never forget the memories that God left you.

To my Birmingham brothers in blue.. I know your loss.. but do not let their memories fade in vain.

REST IN PEACE

DISPATCHER
LAS VEGAS FIRE DEPT

After reading the papers, watching the news, and reading the stories online....no one can doubt that Officer Owens was a great man. The people of the Ensley area seemed to love him, he made his presence known and I have heard many of them refer to him as a friend. It is a shame in this day and time that we have to lose our "friends" just to ensure the safety of our streets.
I pray for peace and comfort for Officer Owen's family. I know he will be missed. This community loves and supports you. He had worked on this force for many years. Now, it is time for him to rest in the safeness of Heaven and protect you from above.

Thank you to officers everywhere for the job you do daily. It's a tough battle you fight, and I really respect you for what you do.

Love and peace be with you all.

My heart goes out to you and you will be in my prayers. You are not alone in your grief. Although I know your pain runs deep I hope that you get some comfort knowing that all of Birmingham shares in just a little of it. Thank you for Officer Owens being a brave man to serve the city. God Bless.

A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER

Lord I ask for courage

Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...

Courage to take me
Where others will not go...

I ask for strength

Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...

I ask for dedication

Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...

Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...

And please Lord

Through it all
Be at my side...
