Chief,

Today has been two years since your passing. It will never get easier to accept it, but with each and every day we feel your love and guidance to help get us through another day. We know you are up there watching over us and making our lifes more fullfilling. If we could have any wish, it would be to have you back, to hear your wisecracks and jokes, to see you smile, to watch you play with the grandkids. I was at a baseball game the other day and teared up when they sang "Take Me Out To The Ball Game". I will never forget you and Lexi singing that together. You would be so proud of all of your children and grandchildren today. We all miss you so much!

All of our love,

I have had the privellege of working with your grandson and daughter due to some of his complications since his birth. I have read a great deal about you since your accident of what wonderful things you had done with your life as a police officer. I have to say that I believe after working with your family the way I have for almost two years now your greatest accomplishment had to have been your children. Your wife and yourself instilled great dedication, determination, and love in your children that continues to be left on to your grandchildren. So in closing thank you for your service to the community throughout your life, but most of all thank you for the dedication you had to your family and raising your children. I work with many children in my career, but none have touched my heart the way your child and grandchildren have.
May God Bless you and Keep You Chief!

Today Jackson very proudly pointed to your picture on his dresser and said "Pop-Pop". I couldn't help but to start to cry. Rylee very quickly noticed what had happened and ran over to me, put her hand on my face, and said "Mommy he will always be in our hearts". What an incredible impression you made on such a little child before you left us. Please continue to watch over both of them Dad. With Jackson you know I've had to take things day by day, but I know you are pulling any strings you can up there to get him where he needs to be physically. Whatever you're doing keep it up. Rylee continues to get bigger and more beautiful with every year that passes. I know you would be so proud of her. Please help me to be the parent to them that you were to me. It's hard to believe it has been almost two years since the accident. Although no times have been easy times, things seem to get harder this time of year. I only wish I could have just a few more minutes with you to tell you how much you have meant to me not only as my dad but also as my friend. Everyone seems to think that time helps ease the pain, but in my opinion things only seem to get worse. I just pray that you are happy because you certainly derserve more happiness than this world had to offer you. Please watch over Mom also. What I wouldn't give to just see her smile the way she did when you were here. I know how much you loved her and know you will continue to guide her and protect her from anything that comes her way. You are greatly missed by each and every one of us and will never be forgotten.

Loving You Always,
Christina

Everytime I hear this song it makes me think of you and reminds me how you are in such a wonderful place. It gives me hope that one day we will see you again.

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly

I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

Yeah, when I get where I'm going
There;ll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here.

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how much I miss him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck.

Yeah, when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here.

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do.

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm going.

Brother Shertzer,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue

My best wishes and sincere sympathy go to the Chief's family and members of the Lititz Police Dept.
Because of this tragedy, I sold my motorcycle.
I figured that if it could happen to guy like him it could happen to me, so the bike went.
If you drive a bike, please be careful.
I am very sorry for your loss.

Today our hearts are very heavy with sorrow. I cannot believe it has been a year since you left us. We cherish your memory everyday. You still live in the hearts and memories of all of us. Alexis said the other day, "Pop-pop was my best friend." You will never be forgotten.

Chief,
I don't know where to start or what to say. I know you've seen the changes in the department since you left both good and bad. I can't help but wonder what would be different if you where still here. I know you’re in a better place now and I'm sure the courses are nicer in heaven. Please continue to watch over us, I still look for your guidance. You have not and will not be forgotten. Lititz misses you.

Chief,
Thank you for convincing the heavens above they did not need another Lititz Borough Police Officer. I'm sure you had a lot to do with my lack of serious injury and speedy recovery following my bicycle accident. I cant thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to work for this department. I was especially proud patrolling the streets over this past holiday season, your prescence remained strong as the community displayed blue christmas/candle lights over the holiday season in your honor and those other fallen law enforcement officers. It was quite remarkable the number of homes and businesses that show their support for you, the department, and all officers who have fallen in the line of duty. Your memory remains strong and until we meet again, (hopefully on the golf course, I still think I can beat you!) continue to keep watch over us and give us guidance as we patrol the streets you so faithfully did!

Dad,
In many ways I feel you are still here watching, guideing, and protecting us. We miss you and love you so much! Not a day goes by that we don't think of or miss your smiling face and loving ways. I realize now that I took you for granted. Most of the time in times of trouble I leaned on your wisdom and drew strength from you. The hardest thing is learning to do it on my own now. Please watch over your family as I know you will. I know you never got a chance to see Jackson, but in so many ways his spirit and strength reminds us of you. Not a day goes by that Rylee does not mention you with that loving smile on her face. We miss you dearly but have faith that we will get through and you are in a happier place than we are.

Loving you Always,
Christina, Josh, Rylee, and Jackson

It took me a while to be able to leave this for you Doug, and I miss you terribly. I know you still watch over us here in the Borough and I can sometimes still hear your voice talking to me in that way that lets me know that everything will be alright. You were a blessing to me for the short time that I knew you and I will always remember the advice you gave to me. Goodbye, my friend.
