TFC Jones,

I am starting to know what it feels like to have to go through this first holiday season without my Duke. I am sure your family is feeling the same way about you. I know that you and God will give them the strength to get through the next several weeks. They will all be in my thoughts.

Tony, thank you for making me laugh. I miss you so much. I will never forget you, my friend, my brother, my fellow Trooper.

I was a member of the MSP 113th Trooper Candidate Class with TFC Jones prior to my assignment with NYSP. TFC Jones was a warm hearted man with strong moral fiber. He was often soft spoken but when he did speak he offered a wealth of wisdom. He was a true asset to the law enforcement community as a whole. My condolences go to his family and to his brothers and sisters at MSP. Rest in peace...

TFC Jones,

I had the pleasure of meeting two of the several important women in your life, your mom and sister Josie. They are wonderful people and love you very much. I have also been told that your niece wants to be a trooper when she grows up. I told Josie to get her involved with the Explorer Program because of her age. She is going to look into it. I am sure your niece will grow from a fine explorer into a wonderful cadet and then a trooper. From what I have read and heard about you, her standards of achievement will have to be set really high. You are definitely an inspiration to all.

Tony was a friend. A good friend from 1st Heli. He was a Flight Engineer with aspirations like the rest of us. I'm deeply saddened by his death. I wished him so much more than a senseless death. What is ridiculous about this whole tragedy is that he was a man of integrity, a man of service, a man of honor. He had so much more left to do. The world is somehow a lesser place without Tony in it. The person that killed Tony, can not realize what has been lost. I am heartbroken by his passing. My friend, my FE, I will miss you. Save me a stool at Fiddler's Green my brother...

Its strange, but even though i never knew, i was in DC at the time of your tragic death and attended your funeral to pay my respects to a brother officer. The thin blue line is a little thinner. God Bless

TFC JONES ALWAYS GREETED ME WITH A SMILE EITHER AT CP BARRACKS, IN COURT OR ON THE RODE. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BACK HIM UP ON A FEW TRAFFIC STOPS ON W/B ROUTE 50...AND LIKEWISE HE RETURNED THE FAVOR IN BACKING ME UP AS WELL. TFC JONES WAS A FAIR AND GREAT OFFICER THAT WILL BE MISSED DEEPLY BY MANY.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Anthony did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Anthony be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Trooper Jones' family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Anthony is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Anthony was well respected and well loved.

Thank you Trooper Jones' for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Trooper Jones for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

To the daughter's of Trooper Jones,
I too am a daughter of a Maryland fallen hero. My dad is at his final resting place with your dad at Dulaney. It is extremely hard to cope with losing your dad. I struggle with it everyday. My dad has always and will always be my HERO. I am sure that your dad is yours also. Always keep that it your heart. I want you to remember one thing as you both go through life….
Your dad was an amazing person and as much as I know that you would give anything to have him back, I hope that you will take comfort in knowing how many lives he has touched in the short time he was here.
You know that when we are gone from here
No one will care what kind of car we drove
How much money we had
Or even what we looked like
But what they will remember is
What a difference the person made in the life of another.
The point is not to live forever
But that FOREVER knows that you were once here. That is how your father as well as mine and all of the other faller hereos will be remembered. Take pride in that. You will always be your father's daughters.
Stay strong and take care of yourselves. Keep your dad proud.
Rest in peace blue angels!

I am a veteran of the US Navy and I began processing for the Maryland State Police back in October of 2002. I have 3 family members in MSP and my father is a retired member of the Montgomery County MD Police Dept. I have always heard of the "Band of Brothers" attitude between the men and women of the Law Enforcement community but I never witnessed it myself until the terrible loss of TFC Anthony Jones. I was traveling through MD a few days ago and saw the most moving sight in my life... Officers from all over the country coming to MD for the funeral of a man they never even met... Virginia, Michigan, New York, Florida... the list goes on and on. I was moved to tears... These men, these Officers of the law, truly are heroes. I am so proud to be able to join the ranks of such a proud group of men and women. My sincere condolences go to the family and friends of TFC Jones. We may have lost a hero but heaven has gained an angel...
