To Officer James Gordon Lewis, his loved ones and his fellow officers:

On this the second anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is revered and honored today.

May your family continue be to comforted by the warm embrace of their law enforcement family, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with them. My heart is with your family.

Reading all the loving reflections left by those who cared for you gives us an understanding of what a good and honorable man you were and of the high esteem with which you are held.

Jim, for nineteen yeas you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Officer Lewis. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Officer Lewis gave to his community and the citizens of Washington, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 27, 2004.

Brother Lewis,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue

It's almost been a year since you left.
You just crossed my mind so thought
I'd come to your site. Seattle P.D. just lost Officer Lone so now there are 2 departments that are hurting. God's comfort and peace to your family and friends and your law enforcement family.

It has been almost one year since you were taken from us. I still think of you often and feel the great loss to our department, your friends and most of all your family.

I was Jim's first Field Training Officer when he joined the department. He was easy to train because of his enthusiastic desire to learn and his previous law enforcement expereience. I will always treasure the memories of responding to calls with him and the friendship he shared with me.

One night we had an unsual snow fall for the Puget Sound region. It wasn't clear whether I would be able to make it to work the next day. Jim came to my house in his four wheel drive truck and spent the night so we could both get to work.

A few years later, he introduced me to mountaineering and hiking. We hiked up a mountain and repelled down 50 feet from the top with another friend of his. I will never forget the thrill of that experience and the world it opened to me.

Before his accident, he told me about his trip to Thailand last December and how thrilled he was to ride an elephant and visit the hill tribe peoples. I have had this experience also and was so glad that he had a chance to do that.

I remember also that Jim was a Marine Corp veteran. I am proud of his service to our country in this branch of service and the effect it had in molding his character. Semper Fi!

Thank you Jim for touching my life as a kind, sincere, strong and trustworthy human being and officer. I still miss you very much.

Another name goes on the wall
an officer took their leave
we try to comprehend it
as again we start to grieve

Another family torn apart
dazed and asking why
a sea of badges draped in black
once more a sad goodbye

Another final proud salute
to one who gave their all
one who did not hesitate
to answer the final call

Another names goes on the wall
that paid the ultimate cost
stone faces, streaked with tears
another senseless loss

Jim was a very good friend and a very capable Police Officer. I met Jim during my very first week on the streets in June of 1987. Jim always had a kind word for you and was always there to assist you if needed.

I will miss Jim dearly.
Rest in peace Brother Jim,

The Tacoma Police Department has been through the wringer lately and to lose such a well-respected officer is a large blow. Prayers go out to the Lewis family and the entire community of Tacoma for strength during these hard times and for the comfort and peace of memories.

EVERY TIME I HEAR OF AN OFFICER DOWN GIVING HIS LIFE FOR PEOPLE HE/SHE DOES NOT EVEN KNOW OR TRYING TO GET TO HELP HIS/HER FELLOW OFFICER IT GRIPS MY HEART AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO BREATHE.
THE SOLLICE I GET FROM IMAGINING THE MUCH BETTER PLACE THAT JIM HAS MOVED ONTO IS COMFORTING. I ONLY HOPE THAT THIS COMFORT CAN BE PASSED ONTO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT HAVE BEEN LEFT BEHIND TO TRY AND CARRY ON. THE FELLOW OFFICERS WHO CONTINUE TO CARRY THE TORCH AND KEEP THE STREETS OF OUR CITIES SAFE BY DAY AND NIGHT.
I DID NOT HAVE THE PRIVILEDGE TO HAVE KNOWN OFFICER LEWIS BUT FROM READING THE MANY ACCOLADES THAT HAVE BEEN SENT IN IN HIS NAME I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK THAT MY LIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER HAD I KNOWN THIS MAN.
ON BEHALF OF MY POLICE FORCE THE, ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE AND MY DETACHMENT CHILLIWACK RCMP DETACHMENT IN BRITISH COLUMBIA,CANADA AND FOR MY CHAPTER OF THE BLUE KNIGHTS MOTORCYCLE CLUB I OFFER MY CONDOLENCES AND MY PRAYERS TO THE LEWIS FAMILY AND TO JIM'S FELLOW OFFICERS. I AS A MOTOR OFFICER MYSELF WITH JUST ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE CAN SAY THAT THE DAY WE HEARD OF THIS TRAGIC ACCIDENT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE NAMOA CONFERENCE IN CHILLIWACK BC. IT TOUCHED ALL THE 165 OFFICERS AT THIS CONFERENCE DEEPLY, JIM YOU WILL BE MISSED BY YOUR FELLOW LAW ENFORCEMENT RIDERS.
MAY THERE BE WINGS ON YOUR WHEELS AND A BRISK WIND IN YOUR FACE ON THIS YOUR LAST RIDE HOME.
SLEEP WELL BROTHER.
