Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer James Gordon Lewis

About a year and a half ago when I was working at another agency for overtime I sat in a patrol car with an officer. We were both working the graveyard shift together. We had coffee. The evening was long, boring and cold. We talked about police politics and life issues in general. Being a Christian I have an interest in others, what they think about God and if appropriate, their faith if any, in God. The subject came up in our conversation. I asked the officer if he believed in God. We talked alot about this subject. The conversation at one point went in the direction of "Where do you think you are going if you died".

The officer I was speaking to was Officer Jim Lewis from Tacoma.

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY.
RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE,
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE.
"IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY.
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE TO PAY.
MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS,
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS.
THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST,
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST.
MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND,
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND.
I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
AND WITH A HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE,
I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST...

DEAR GOD LET MY NAME BE THE LAST.

LT. JAMES A. WILLIAMS
N.Y.P.D.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend. Deputy Jeffrey Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

I am saddened to see the name of another officer added to this list today.

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....

To the family and friends of Officer Lewis.

To Those I love And To Those Who Love Me:

When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown
But now it's time I traveled alone.

So grieve awhile for if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen to your heart, you'll hear
All of my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone
I'll greet you with a smile and say
"Welcome Home"

May we keep the memories of our loved ones alive.

To all of Law Enforcement Officer's STAY SAFE.....

TO:The family;loved ones;friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord! Keep the day/night watch with me . As I begin my tour of duty,I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties.Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are gratefulfor my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, Iask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty,to my loved ones and those who love me.I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer ; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN *** REST IN PEACE***Sent to you by the father of First Class Officer J.D.Koeppen,Capital City Raleigh NC and Trooper D.C.Koeppen,NJ State Police.

May the Good Lord greet you Officer Lewis in his arms at the pearly gates of Heaven! It was with great sadness that I drove past your final departure location on your EOW, while I was taking my son to a store on 4-27-04. I was in tears, as I saw the cordoned area with a PD MC lying on it's side. My son knew as well, and instantly began to pray out loud. May God keep you, and may He ever watch over your survivors. May He also keep the men and women of the Tacoma PD strong and of good cheer in these difficult days.
