I just got done going through the night driving course last week. At the end of the night, one of my favorite instructors told the whole class that most officers die in automobile accidents every year. Like many others in the class, I took this with a "Yeah Sure" attitude and today I am read this memorial. I am sorry for your loss.

May God Bless you sir, and your family.

My deepest condolences to Deputy Filmores family and co-workers. Although I never met you personally I wanted to thank you for your service. I have many family and friends that reside in Clinton County and it comforts me to know that such dedicated officers are working there. You gave the ultimate sacrifice. The maximum price one can pay. All citizens of Michigan are in debt to you for your devotion and commitment that gave to the county. You will always be remembered. Rest in peace and watch over all of us.

To the family and co-workers of this fallen hero, my condolences. My family too has suffered such a loss. there are no words that can console, there are no answers at this point in time. My nephew Officer Ryan Capaletty served with the chesterfield PD in Va. he was only on watch 5 months when he was taken from us. But 5 months or 8 years does not matter , they are still gone, in body, but never in spirit. these heros will live on in all of us forever, because of who they were and what they did. Heros all that have gone on to their well desrved rewards. may god bless the filmore family and all pd's every where

To the family of Deputy Perry Filmore, We here in Fort Myers know what you are going through, we lost an officer and my best friend in the same way on October 25, 2003, Officer Starks was on his way to back up fellow Officers in a Vehicle Pursuit. Both of these Law Enforcement officers left this world doing what they loved and doing it right. They will never be forgotten.

“When God made Peace Officers….”

When the lord was creating Peace Officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”

And the Lord said, Have you read the spec on this order? A Peace Officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn’t touch, and not wrinkle their uniform.

They have to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day.

They have to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half- eaten meals. And they have to have six pairs of hands.

The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands….No Way.”

“It’s not the hands that are causing me the problems,” said the Lord, “It’s the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have.”

That’s on the standard model? asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, “May I see what’s in there sir?” (When they already know and wishes they had taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of their head for their partners’ safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, “ You’ll be alright ma’am, when they know it isn’t so.”

“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve,” rest and work tomorrow.”

“I can’t,” said the Lord, “I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on civil service paycheck.”

The angel circled the model of the Peace Officer very slowly, “Can it think?” she asked.

“You bet,” said the Lord, “It can tell you elements of a hundred crimes, recite Miranda warnings in it’s sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five judges to debate the legality of the stop…and still it keeps it’s sense of humor.

This officer also has phenomenal personal control. They can deal with crime scenes painted in HELL, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim’s family’ and then read in the daily paper how Law Enforcement isn’t sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Peace Officer. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model.”

“That’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”

“What’s the tear for?” asked the angel.

“It’s for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American flag, and for justice.”

“You’re a genius,” said the angel.

The Lord looked sober. “I didn’t put it there,” he said.

Dear Filmore Family,

I am sorry to hear about your loss, take some comfort in two verses from the Bible:"Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted." Matt. 5:4 and "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God." Matt. 5:9. God Bless.

Perry,
I went to the Wheel this morning for Breakfast, with the rest of my crew. We sat in the corner booth,... ... it wasn't the same, knowing you werent gonna be there. I miss you so much already. Im so sad that you were taken away from us so soon. You were only just at the begining. I was with your family on Saturday morning when they got the horriable news. I was also with your friends and Co Workers later to help them with the loss of a wonderful partner and wonderful friend. You are a great guy and Im so happy you were in my life. Im a better person for knowing you, we all are. You touched everyones lives and we will never forget that.
Perry, I know that you died doing what you LOVED to do and doing what you did BEST, BEING A POLICE OFFICER! Thank you from the bottom of my Heart for doing the job you did and doing a wonderful job at it. Now you are in Heaven walking Gods streets. Working the roads up there. You will never have to ask me for a pair of rubber gloves again, however, please know that I will always carry an extra pair of them in my pocket just for you. Thanks for always showing me the "little tricks" You will always be my Perry Emptyless. I love you and miss you lots. I will see you again, someday.
