Reflections for Police Officer Ricardo Lizarraga

We are truly saddened at Ricardo's loss.
--------------------------------------
We all recall you gave your best.
You did your job, now you can rest.
Your comrades now can cover your post
as you take your place with the Heavenly Host.

God Bless Our Fallen Brothers & Sisters.

Though we never met, your death touched me profoundly. And there was no relief in the arrest of the individual who took your life. Why should he live, and you be taken away? Seems so senseless and unfair. God Bless you my brother, rest in peace. You will not be forgotten.

Twenty-four hours a day, inclement weather or shine, We stand tall, recognized by all as the only barrier between good and evil. We run towards gun fire, enter strange homes to quell disturbances, remind motorist about the privileges granted them to drive, and ensure children get home safely.

Not often enough We are thanked for undertaking so many overwhelming task - more in one ten hour shift than anyone else would even consider accomplishing in one month. We do take an oath to "safeguard lives and property, to protect the innocent and the weak and the peaceful", but We are also human beings requiring the same compassion and respect as everyone else.

We do our best with what we have to make right when all has gone wrong.

May God bless us and provide us with the strength and courage to carry on.

See you soon Ricardo.

A Part of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand in court
With counsel demanding his rights
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our country won't fly at half-mast,
to his name they'll add a gold star.
Yes, someone killed a policeman today.
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a cold dark street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
and a part of America died.

My thoughts and my prayers are with your family today and May god bless your wife for being so strong in such a time of despare.

To my classmate... my teammate...and most of all, my friend. I wish I can unsee the things I saw that day. And how I wish I could change the things that happened. You were taken away to a better place, but you will forever remain in our hearts. Everyone who knew you, loved you.

Protect and Serve the people up there as you have done so valiantly down here. I won't say goodbye, I'll just say "See you later."

TO JOYCE,
I HAVE ALREADY LEFT A REFLECTION HERE BUT I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT HAS HAPPENED. IT HURTS ME SO MUCH TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH, ESPECIALLY AS A WIFE OF ANOTHER LAPD OFFICER. I SAW YOU AT THE VIGIL AND YOU ARE SUCH AN INCREDIBLY AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL STRONG WOMAN. YOU SHOW SO MUCH GRACE, INTEGRITY, PRIDE AND STRENGTH THROUGH THE MOST DIFFICULT TIME OF YOUR LIFE. I COMMEND YOU AND I WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP PRAYING FOR YOUR BELOVED HUSBAND AND FOR YOU. JOYCE. CONTINUE TO STAY STRONG AND KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. GOD BLESS YOU. REMEMBER WE LOVE YOU!
