Reflections for Police Officer Ricardo Lizarraga

Another holiday season without you.
We miss the pies you would bring every year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thinking of you always

November 23, 2006

Hey bro,

In case you haven’t heard...kidding…

The ceremony on Friday was impressive. It was a really good turn out and good coverage was provided. Principal Moscosco and her staff did a great job in planning the day’s activities, the kids were great too. You received great recognition. Joyce, the Chief, Councilwoman Perry, Coach Uyeshima, and others said some great things about you. Hearing great things about you never gets old. In fact the best part of the ceremony was just sitting there and hearing your name and Ricardo Elementary School said over and over again. It was kind of surreal. Quite the honor having a school named after you… I gotta say though, as I was sitting there enjoying the moment, being proud of you, I found myself a bit overcome with emotion, the exact words that crossed my mind were, “F this, I want my brother back”......though I am certain many other people were thinking something similar. Nonetheless, your legacy continues, and we are all extremely proud.

By the way, after the ceremony I think I was offered a job by one of the Deputy Chief’s that day, I think that’s like the second or third time that has happened, what do you think??? :)

Go Cowboys!

Your bro and best bud,

Jorge Lizarraga

So how about that.....a school named in your honor, who would ever imagine that, "RICARDO LIZARRAGA ELEMENTARY". Its a beautiful 2 story elementary school that opened last year. Its hard to believe it, we wonder what will be next.

I rather have you here, I miss you always

We never met. I'm sorry for that. My husband speaks of you often. You are so missed by so many. I almost feel cheated for not getting to know you. In a strange way, I do know you. I know you from the stories I've heard and from the tears I've seen. You touched so many hearts. Even the hearts of those you have never met.
My prayers are with you and your family. Please keep an eye out for your brothers & sisters at Newton. You know how those guys are, FEARLESS and TRUE to the cause.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that
God was going to call your name,
in life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
you did not go alone,
for part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories, your love
is still our guide, and though we cannot
see you , you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
the Chain will link again.

A Million Times

A million times we've needed you,
A million times we've cried.
If love alone could've saved you,
You would have never died.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place,
No one else could ever fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone.
Part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.

We miss you so much, not a day goes by without us thinking of you. It still feels so unreal, and so unfair the way you were taken from us.

Keep watching over your fellow officers, and let them get home safe to their families.

always on my mind, always in my heart, love you always

Liz,

You were the first officer killed in the line of duty since Ive been on the department. We never met and I was only a few classes ahead of you. I will never forget you or the rest of our brothers up there with you. I know one day I will finally meet so we can trade capers. Until then, RIP God Bless your familly.

We will never forget

There was always something about you everytime we hanged out. Man we would go shooting pool, you would laugh at my jokes. You would order fries and put tabasco sauce and ketchup on them. This really sucks man. But hey I talk to you everyday. I see your picture, and yes it makes me cry, but I never, never will forget everything we said to each other

just a close friend

What a hectic 36-hour period, that I shall never forget!

After Your OIS, there was another unrelated OIS within the 77th Area. While assisting at that scene, I had a citizen lead me to an active WWII grenade laying in a nearby gutter, resulting in a major evacuation.

In Your memory, community members erected a billboard sign across the street from the 77th Street Station. I have a photograph of that billboard on my LAPD Screen Name. Your memory lives on beyond the Newton Division and 77th Street Division communities. RIP, Bro !

Hello my friend. I was sitting here and thinking of you. I know you were looking out for your fellow Ofcrs from HOBK. I got a special coin from a special person and I say the prayer that is on the coin everytime before I go out. Thanks Liz for keeping us safe. Love You and STAY UP BRO!!

It has been 2 1/2 years since your tour of duty ended and I know the tears still flow from the hearts of those that love you. Keep watch over your loved ones, wrap your wings around them to help them with their grief. Protect them from harm and also those still out on patrol. There are no magic words I can offer to help them with their grief except to take one day at a time and keep your memory alive. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten.

Liz,
I wear your memorial bracelet every day, as do so many of us. I remember that day, and all the phone calls, classmates calling my house and saying you were shot. I was thinking, "If anyone could survive it's this guy! He is so tough and so strong." We didn't know then that God had come to take you already. Everyone liked you and remembered your big smile and your positive attitude regardless of the situation.

We make sure to keep in touch with your wife, make sure she gets birthday cards and funny notes from a fellow LAPD family. My wife says that we have the biggest, toughest, strongest LAPD angel to watch over this class. I know you are looking over my shoulder when I'm in a dark alley sneaking up on some gangsters. I know you were working toward specialized units and we all know you are there with us now.

The people of Los Angeles were cheated out of another fine officer who cared about the communities he served.

Thinking of you always my ANGEL in BLUE.....I MISS YOU..WE ALL DO

June 18, 2006

Liz,
Last week one of our officers was shot. She survived but unfortunately is paralyzed. Brings back a lot of memories of Feb 20, 2004. I'd like to think that somehow you played a part in saving her life.

Never forgotten, rest in peace.

I think of you often and yet I never knew you. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. I've never cried for anyone I never knew and yet I cry for you and for what you stood for. You're the Angel in Blue that I know is watching over all of us with that beautiful smile of yours.
