To the Family of Officer Matthew Edmond Bowens,

I have the honor of carrying your son and brother with me as my silent partner. I grew up in Southwest Detroit where Officer Bowens so diligently protected and served. He is brave and lives on as greatly appreciated for his service, dedication, and sacrifice made for my community and the Detroit Police Department. I will do my best to carry his name and memory with honor, courage, and commitment. My sincerest condolences for your family’s loss.

Praying for better days. Wishing you peace, comfort, and love.

My Dad (#556) reflected multiple times throughout my life on the pleasant experiences he had working with you and Jen Fettig at old #4.

I want your family to know your stories and sacrifices will never be forgotten. There is no heavier burden than the weight of public service in the field of law enforcement. Your sacrifice and unrelenting dedication to your community shall never be forgotten.

I am a SPO , and I look forward to sharing your story with my class.

Although I never knew you as a young child, I have often found myself thinking of you , your partner and your family and the shock they still feel in the present day.

I know your family is more than proud and profoundly honored. I hope to be half of the Officer you were if I am so fortunate to graduate the DPD academy.

You will forever be in my prayers , and your memory will never leave my heart. Thank you for being a good friend to my father.

May you rest in peace, eternally.

Miss you dearly little brother. I’m just a few hours it will be exactly 19 years since I received the worst call of my life. You were a true hero and died with honor doing what you dreamed about since you were 5 years old. Keep smiling down and watching over my kids. They never had the chance to meet Uncle Matt but know what an amazing uncle they would have had. Until we meet again.

I think about you and Jennifer often, daily honestly. I often say silent prayers for the both of you and your families. We only met by chance on that freezing cold morning, but I am honored to have known the both of you, and I can only hope to have a fraction of courage and selflessness that the both of you displayed that fateful morning.

You will never be forgotten.

God bless the both of you, your families and co-workers.
