Reflections for Corporal Matthew Alan Thompson

I did not know Matt very well, but I did enjoy the times we had together while at Mobile Police Department. He is missed, and thought about often...

Lee Ann, I still remember the good father and husband Matt was. I enjoyed working with Matt in Chickasaw and then I got to work with him in Mobile. So I was double blessed to know Matt. I have not forgotten you and the (grown) children and Matt.

Miss you so much.!!!! Have you been talking to these grandbabies? They tell us they have been talking to you. It really puts chills on our spine when the babies say " I am talking to PaPa Matt and we are talking about JESUS. Really don't know what to think about that. They are only 20 months old, so I don't know...... Gosh, I wish I could talk to you..

I love you!!!

Matt,
I took over your squad after your departure. All the old members are gone now. Cpl Dickerson was the last, and he has gotten himself promoted to sergeant and runs his own squad now. I didn't know you real well back in the day, but I often think about you as I go about the business of running 2nd squad. The department has changed since those days, most of the faces are new. I still have that ugly mug that was left on the desk when I got here. I think of you each time I look at it, and I feel you here when there are hard choices to be made. RIP my brother, your squad soldiers on.

Nine years seems like a life time in some ways and only yesterday in others. Just wanted to let you know that we thank you for your service and we will never forget your scarifice.
Lee Ann and family, I know how hard this day is for all of you, just know there are a lot of people who will be thinking about you and keeping you all in thier prayers. Know that we've come to know each other with the way our Officers died, we will always have that bond. Thank you for helping me along this path that no one wants to go. Love you all...

It's Sunday morning, sitting here thinking about you. It's been 8 years today. It seems sometimes like it was yesterday. We miss you so much. Mobile lost another officer 9 days ago. It is cold this morning, I think it's about 27 degrees. I hate this time of year, Valentines, Mardi Gras. I guess one day I need to throw the valentine box away, it still have the plastic paper on it. We were planning on drive up to the hunting camp today, but it is going to be cold, so I don't know what we will do.. I love you so much..

Just learned of your passing my friend. So sad to hear of your loss. Even though we were stationed together a short time we became pretty good friends. I'll never forget our times out four wheeling with your two wheel drive Chevy or our times out flying patrols in the the thunderpigs(C-131). You will always be missed and remembered. We will meet again someday!

Just thinking of you and your family, our prayers are with you Matt. We showed up in Mobile in the middle of September and your name came up during our reunion. After researching we found out what happened. Old friend you are not forgotten! We named the old road that we used to drive on back in 1981 in your honor "Thompson Road", because you spent more time on that road trying to get unstuck. The pictures and fond memories are all i have. Thomas Dupont, Meridian, Ms.

Time seems to fly by, then other times it seems to be at a standstill. I can't believe tonight will be 7 years. It just doesn't seem real. I think about you all the time. I do not understand why life has to be so hard. I know you are proud of the kids, I am proud they have grown into such wonderful adults. I will make sure your grandson knows who you are and how much we love you. I know Matthew will make sure of it too. We love you and we never forget you. You are still as much part of our lives as ever, only your physical body is just not with us.

I love you.

You know we lost Pat on July 16th. I am wondering if you have seen her yet. I told her to tell you that I love you and we all still miss you so very much. The kids and I have joked about Pat being with you and Mama in heaven, that you are probably going out of your mind. Harold is doing OKAY, if there is such a thing. Jennifer has the new baby, so I think that is helping her. Ashlea only has about 4 weeks left. There will be another Matthew Alan Thompson. We will be grandparents. Can you believe it?
It doesn't seem real.

We love you and miss you so very much.
