Yesterday, my husband and I attended the wake in Mark's honor. I was not shocked to see the amount of people there to support the family and friends. As we waited, I fumbled for the right words to say to show my support during this time. It wasn't until I stepped up to Ms. Tucker with my husband, that I realized she had more strength than I. She was the one showing support for our husbands, fathers, mothers, friends, wives, etc. The words of wisdom she and her son shared with me will live with me eternally. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be in their presence, if only for a moment.

May God continue to shower you with blessings and love. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I will not worry, for I know that God and Mark have their gentle arms wrapped around our Deputies. God Speed.

'Marshall' Tucker,
I'll never forget how nice you were to me when I first moved to NC. You made me laugh with your stories of the 'good ole days'. ( I still don't know which ones were true and which ones were 'made up to mess with the new guy'.) Anyway, I know that you are in a better place now and I'm sure that you are keeping God and the Angels entertained :)
You will certainly be missed! Vaya con Dios, mi amigo!

Mark,

I never had the pleasure of meeting you, though I have passed you in halls at the office. I have found more times than not in this department when someone asked do I know someone else I have to say no. I guess that is expected when you work at a department of this size. Mark even though I never had the chance to meet you. I am proud to say that I work for the same department. After talking with your son Chad on 2/13/04 I am even more proud to say that I wear the same badge on my chest that you carried. A fine officer lost..But never forgotten. We will take the watch from here brother Mark. Rest in peace.

Dear God,

Why did you take our brother today, he was the one wearing black and gray. His brass was nicely polished, his shoes shined too, his heart was full of pride, but now he no longer stands at our side? He worked a life of service, his devotion tried and true, he is needed here so badly so why is he with you? He touched the lives of strangers, he worked day and night, he gave the ultimate sacrifice to take you heavenly plight. If our brother you are keeping, there is only one thing to say, please take care of your newest angel, he is the one wearing black and gray.

Until when meet in heaven Brother in Black and Gray.

Mark,

I had the privledge of doing a watch at your house this morning. Your family was so generous in offering me coffee.

I stopped at the spot where you made the ultimate sacrafice, and felt tremendous sadness fill my heart. (I also sat your flowers upright since the wind had tipped them over.)

Your dedication to your job is unquestionable, and you are the type of deputy that makes us all proud to be part of the Sheriff's Office. No one ever thought we would lose three officers in 6 months, and the grief is tremendous. But the Lord has called yet another brother to spend this Valentines Day with him and all his angels, and when the Lord calls we all must answer.

God Bless you and your family.

May peace and love follow them all the days of their life.

We shall meet again.

Mark, I first met you when you were the U.S. Marshall. I remember the way the room would light up every time you walked in. Everyone who knew you liked you, and I don't think it was by choice.. they had to like you. You were an example of dignity, confidence, honor and to top it off you had such a sense of humor. I had the priviledge of working with you on the South side when you came back to the Sheriff's Office, and you taught me a lot. I want to thank you for what you did for me personally, and for what you did for the department. You set an example of how a law enforcement officer should be. Your memory and your legacy will forever remain.
