Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Bertram Zimmerman, III

To the family and friends of Trooper Bert Zimmerman and his fellow officers:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to pay honor to Bert's memory on the fifth anniversary of the day he so tragically lost his life.

May you be continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are still experiencing. I had the pleasure of befriending Bert's Mom at a parents' retreat and I hold her in my heart's embrace today.

Please know that the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement and police survivors will always be by your side on each step of the journey.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of service Bert gave to his community and the citizens of New Jersey, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 5, 2004.

I know there are a lot of people who read my brother's memorial page and leave reflections and some just read. I just wanted to let everyone know that this February 5, 2009, it will be 5 years since Bert's death. I wanted to let everyone know that we are having a 5 year beef and beer in his memory. We give several scholarships each year in Bert's name as well as donate to several organizations. If you would like some information, please email me. Thank you!! Andrea

Bert,

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the Phillies did it. You were right on. Remember when Andrea when to Lisa Hopp. That is exactly what you told her that the Phillies were going all the way.
Also, the dedication of the ball field was so great. So many people came to honor you. The sign that Sign and Design made for the field is just beautiful. The State Police, Gloucester Township Police, Gloucester Township Public Works, Parks and Recs. Dept., and the township did a terrific job. The day was beautiful and I know how proud you were to have this ball field named in your honor.
Sorry I haven't talked to you sooner, but the computer has been down.
Miss you so much. Say hi to dad for me and I'll be thinking of him on the 18th.

Love, Mom

Bert,

I remember talking to you back in February, and you told me the Phillies were going to go all the way, and you were right! I know you loved the parade and had the best seat. It was awesome to be right up front an see the Phillies so close. I remember when mom took me and you to the 1980 parade, and we wnet to JFK stadium and how much fun we had. Then our last Phillies game together was when you got tickets to the last game ever played at Vet Stadium before they blew it up. I still have my tickets in the plastic and will never forget that day.

Love,
Andrea

Well, where should I begin. We are the CHAMPS of the world series. I know you were watching and helped them in all the ways possible. After hearing the different stories, such as 1980 and 2008 the last two numbers are reversed. The pitchers Tug 45 Lidge 54. Do you see what is being said here. Also they both strike out the last batter. Does history repeat itself or is it just coincidental. OH well who cares, they did it. I know you already know all this but it just feels good telling you. Knowing how you felt about the teams of Philly. Take care will talk to you soon.

Denise,

I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you and wanted to thank you for always being there for me. The strength that you have shown is an inspiration to me and so many others. I know that Bert is so proud of the dignity that you’ve shown and ways that you’ve been able to help so many others. Your Bert was taken too soon but I know he now smiles down at you, so grateful that he chose to spend his last days here with you as his wife. Because they were, beyond doubt, his happiest days here.

Love ya,
Lynn

Bert,

The day has finally come. Today I can finally write to you.. I made a vow that two things had to happen before I could write on this reflection. They both have been completed and I could not be happier. I miss you so much.
I know there will be a day when you and Dad will be there
and we will all be together again. Until then I have a lot of things to do here. It has been hard but your sisters and the kids are my life. I know you watch over them always. The ball field was finally dedicated in your honor on Saturday October 11,2008. It was a beautiful day and I know you had something to do with that.
Coach sends you a message. Your free..................
Talk again to you soon. Miss you and send you all my LOVE.............................

I attended a beautiful event today. Your family, friends, and co-workers,from Gloucester Township and the State Troopers were all in attendence. The senior ball field of the township was dedicated in your honor. You should be very proud. Everyone in attendence just had praise and more praise in your honor. I can honestly say it was a pleasure to know you and after being in attendence for this dedication, everyone there felt the same way. It was a beautiful day and ceremony. I know you were looking over everything and felt very proud. Keep watching over all of us. I know that you send signs and I look for them always.
Love you and miss you always.

Trooper, we lost 2 more here in Philadelphia in the last month. Horribly one was in an auto accident, the other killed by a career thug. I didn't know you, Bert, but your father in law said you were a good guy. He gave me your pin and I wear it during our mourning period whenever we lose on of our own out of respect to you. Sadly It's been on 4 times in the last year.
Watch out for Chuck, Sarge, Izzy, and now Pat. they're all good people too. RIP Trooper.

Denise,
I came across this quote and thought of you, "Friends are kisses blown to us by angels". I truly believe that Bert and Matt are our guardian angels and that they brought us together to help, support and comfort each other through difficult times. And I know that they will always watch over us and guide us in everyway. Love ya, Lynn

Bert,

Friday is a big day!! So please make sure it doesn't rain!! The helicopter is coming, and everyone is looking forward to it. When you look down from above, you will know who we are! I spent some time with your troop on Monday, and had a good time. The guys were telling me stories, and we laughed, and we cired! I wish you were here and miss you more every day. It has been almost four and a half years, but it seems like yesterday that you were taken away. I hope you send some sign on Friday that tells me you are there!! So enjoy!

Love,
Andrea

A friend is someone we turn to
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives
with beauty, joy, and grace.
And makes the whole world we live in
a better and happier place.

Thanks for always being there for me Denise. You are an amazing person and friend.

Love you,
Lynn
