Reflections for Trooper Bertram Zimmerman, III

This February 5, 2014 Bert will have been gone for 10 years! To me it seems like yesterday. I just wanted to let everyone know that on Saturday, February 8th, I will be having a 10 Year Benefit at Adelphia's Restaurant in Deptford, New Jersey. If you can make it that would be great. It starts at 6:00 PM. This is to help Bert's Scholarship fund which is given to two seniors to the high school he attended.

Bert, You are a true HERO, who gave the ultimate sacrifice. You will never be forgotten. It's been 9 years...it was Honor to have worked with you and even bigger Honor to have stood as your Guardian after this horrific accident. Rest in peace Brother.

Bert,

I can't believe tomorrow is going to be 8 years. Where has the time gone? Every year I think of all of the things you have missed over the year. There were many events this year, including Michelle graduating from high school and Sherri and Jeremy's wedding. Please watch over him when he is on patrol in Washington, DC. I know Sherri worries about him as well as we all do. Please tell dad, Aunt Sue, and Uncle Robert that we miss them. But I know you are all together up in Heaven. One day we will all see each other again!

I thank God that I have met some wonderful people over the past eight years in being a part of COPS and The survivors of the Triangle. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be where I am today. One of my special friends just called me from California, because she knows what tomorrow is. Lisa and I will be taking a ride to your site tomorrow off rte 83, and we will be leaving our momentos. Then we will be going to your favorite diner for dinner as we do every year! I miss you more every day, and will never get over you being gone. You were taken way too soon, and so many people here miss you! My only regret is that you never got to meet Joey. He talks about you like you were here today! He has pictures of you in his bedroom. The best part is he has your ears and the no fear factor! So please watch over him!!!

I love you!

Bert: Miss you just as much as the first day you left us. I know you are in a better place. Thank you and Pop for the dimes and pennies. Take care of Aunt Sue for me. I really miss her. Watch over the kids, especially Michelle since she is driving. Your memory will never be forgotten. We just had the casino trip on friday and the memorial game at the Campbels Field will be on the 24th of June. The State
Police have been so supportive. You picked the best of the best. Please watch over me, I still have to watch over the family. Love, Mom Mother of Trooper Bertram T. Zimmerman N.J.S.P. E.O.W. 02/05/04

Bert,

I remember being in middle school and going to the Saint Joan of Arc carnival where you were in uniform working for Evesham then, and bringing all of my girlfriends up to you so that they could meet my cool cousin, the police officer. I don't know if you ever knew how cool I always thought that you were. I have memories of you dancing your butt off at family weddings, my mom's wedding. When you got out there, they cleared the floor! You certainly drew a crowd of fans with your dance moves. You seemed so big to me then, because I was so little, but you were so young. I dont know how old you were exactly, but it was back when neon silky dress shirts and spikey gelled hair was totally in style (if that helps to date it!) What guts you had, you were so confident being the center of attention, even as a preteen. I was just a little girl, but I do remember how you danced! I also have a funny memory from when I was in high school. I was waiting for a new boyfriend to come and pick me up for a date when you stopped by while on patrol to visit my mom. The guy came to pick me up and you pulled in right behind him in your cruiser and he was so scared to take me out!! How's that for a first impression? ("meet my cousin Bert . . . his gun and his badge") Scaring him away was a good move, as it turns out because I ended up with a wonderful man, a police officer!! You would really like him. He can't dance like you but he is still good. He is dedicated to his job, like you. He actually just applied to NJ State Police, but his mile and 1/2 needs work, so he will have to try again next year. Andrea really likes him, she said she would be proud for him to be a NJ State Trooper. Actually, she made us promise that if he gets into the academy, that she can be the one to pin him at graduation for the badge ceremony. I would love that so much! She has been helping us so much with trying to get him a job with NJ police (he is a MPD officer in Washington DC). Aunt Verna has also been so helpful and supportive with my fiance finding a job here. I pray to you sometimes to watch over him at work and keep him safe . . . and also to help him pass NJ police dept tests :) This is a great page, Bert. You are loved and always will be. I tell my fiance about you and the kind of dedicated and committed, decent, honest officer that you were. He is like that too, just not quite as accomplished as my cool older cousin.

Your memorial game is next Friday. I posted directions and game information on EPD's facebook page, right underneath the picture of you that they put up. You have a whole album on their page. I thought that was very cool. I will be at your game, I go every year. Look for me, I will be wearing your t-shirt!!!!

Bert,

I can not believe another one is gone so soon. As you know by now, your classmate Scott Graham has joined you in heaven. Please bring some peace and comfort to his family and friends, to the entire New Jersey State Police organization who is still healing from Marc's tragic death and particularly to your classmates from the 119th class. Gary and Billy were together yesterday when they learned of Scott's death just as they were together and by your side 6 1/2 years ago. I am glad that they were able to be there for each other yet again as they lost yet another classmate. Please continue to watch over Gary and your other brothers and sisters in blue and gold and bring them home safely to their families.
