Reflections for Sergeant Larry Wayne Russell

*DaddY*thats always what i wanted to call u but i never did and not many people know that. You were like my daddy and you were the closet thing i ever had to a dad and i love you very much for that. You made us a "family" and that made us all happy. We were a close family and we still are now.we have gotten closer through all this and it has made our whole family stronger.I think about you every day and i try to think about all the fun memories we have made over the years. You made those six years the best years just by being a great dad to us.We arent the same without you actualy here but we know that u are always watchin over us. You left us way too early and thats something i won't exactly understand but it was your time and we all know how much u loved all of us.I miss you and love you! Love,Shan

This November will be 2 years since I lost my Sergeant to the hands of a troubled man. Our life on this earth is but a short moment. Looking at the reflections already left for Sergeant Russell, I am certain that he was a great man, leader, and person. I am also certain that this is why our Father in Heaven needed him back. Yes, life on earth is short, but what a glorious thing it is to know that we have eternity to look forward to. Sarge...I look forward to shaking your hand when the day comes!! May God bless the Russell family and the Athens Police Dept. family.

"His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." MATTHEW 25:21

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" TIMOTHY 4:7

Indeed you have Sgt. Russell, and may we all do the same.

When my instructor at the Police Acadamy (Detective Rich Nestor of Clearwater PD) first told our class about this website, I thought the assignment was a little morbid. We were to go onto the website, find an officer that was brought down in the line of duty, and write a report about it. Now that I have been through this, I realize that he was just making us realize what we are going into. I cannot that Sgt Russel and his faimily enough. You made the ultimate sacrifice my brother, and you will not be forgotten. Thank you.

I am saddened to the deaths of more law enforcement officers. I hate that we are living in such a cruel world. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Officer Russell.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....

In loving memory of my brother Larry
3-24-61 to 1-2-04

A dear brother, a wonderful father,
a loving husband and friend.
Such was our brother,
a man among men.
He answered the call that fateful day,
along with a fellow brother in blue,
where both were felled by ambush,
there was nothing they could do.
Now the world mourns their passing,
now our tears flow like rain,
while our hearts are so broken,
trampled and in pain.
Our brother was laid to rest with honors,
befitting the hero he was.
Salutes were sounded and bugles cried,
while carried by officers who had stood by his side.
Officers came from everywhere on that day,
with tears in their eyes and pain in their hearts,
to mourn the passing of their brothers
who had stood their last watch.
Now we know that he watches over all of us from above,
with his usual patience, caring and love.
Oh how we miss you, sweet brother of ours,
but we know we will again meet some day.
To the world you are a hero,
but you always were to me,
because of the man you grew up to be.

There are no words sufficient to express the grief that a tragedy like this brings to so many people or how many lives it does touch. We will forever be grateful for the outpouring of love and support our family has received from so many. I miss my baby brother, and cherish the memories I have. Through bad days and good, those memories will sustain us, and we will always remember his love and laughter. I love you.... I miss you...there will never be enough words.

One last time............ What I wouldn't give.
Help me god to understand. Help me God
to cope. Help me God to go on. Help me God..
I miss you so, I need to feel your breath, your
presence, your soul. Your are the beat of
my heart, the breath I take, how can any
thing compare? Where are the tears going
to fall?

I love you

Although we never had a chance to meet, we shared a common goal.
To make the world a better place, but now it's taken a toll.
Now I say to you in words of a prayer, I will remember what you've done.
Your death was the ultimate in sacrifice, how tragic that you're gone.
One day we'll meet and talk about our common goal and then,
The heartache that I 'm feeling now, will no longer have to mend.

Larry,

You were my friend and protector. You were honorable, caring and possessed great integrity. You were always kind, and tough when you needed to be . . . but always fair. You, like Tony, were a great warrior. It is important that we remember that which is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial, as it applies to both you and Tony . . . "It is not how they died that made them heros, but rather, how they lived." I have always carried my retired ATF badge with me, and will always continue to do so . . . with the black mourning band on it forever, in memory of you and Tony. Thank you for your friendship, and the love and safety you brought to so many. You will never be forgotten. With brotherly love and respect, Jim Crotty
