Bro, I was just thinking about that little eddy you took me to, off the Kenai. Awesome memory. I wish we could still hit some off the beaten path trout creek. Rest in peace Bro. You are G.B.N.F.

John, I think of you often. No longer have the bikes for you to pull over and tell us our pipes are too loud. :) Art almost joined you 4 years ago, but the docs pulled him back to this side. He'll join you some day and then you can both ride the winds together.

Keep watch until then. We will keep your name alive.

John and I worked together many night shifts and lots of calls together. He was a mentor and a friend. My take away from his death is that life is not a guarantee, seize each day make the most of your time.

John,I have thought about you often over the years. You and Lonnie were a couple of the finest he dept have ever had in service. You always went for the peaceful resolution to the the problem if there was one to be found. I admired you and was totally shocked that this would happen in Kenai and to such a fine human being. You are not forgotten and won’t be as long as I live.

I think of John every Christmas, with fondness and sadness. I feel sorrow for his loss and his family's pain. I wish I could have been there to help - we helped each other on other calls. There's not a Christmas goes by that I don't think of him, even though it was YEARS ago that we worked together. I was a baby Trooper in Soldotna, and he was on the drug task force. Our work crossed mostly with running drug cases and a drug informant. We were teamed with Sgt. Randy Crawford (who also died tragically, in a plane crash). This year I find myself alone at Christmas. On 12/23, I felt COMPELLED to participate in the Elk Creek Church event of bringing three dozen cookies, to be distributed to local first responders. Well, I missed the drop off time and found myself with four dozen cookies that had to go somewhere! I called dispatch, found out where the police department was (I'm new here) and met Officer John Johnston. I told him I was a retired Trooper and promised that the only thing in the cookies was what was supposed to be there! I also warned him that I was a better Trooper than a baker (my colleagues would attest to that). I also told John about my friend, John Watson. I chokingly told Officer John to be safe and careful and wished him a Merry Christmas. I also wish you, John Watson, and family, a Merry and joyful Christmas.

John,
I left Alaska in 1997. Today (Dec 23, 2018) a retired Trooper friend was telling me how hard it is to think of your untimely death...but I didn't know until today, having reconnected with fellow Alaskans now that I'm back on the left coast. Had to go see your smiling face in the collage hanging in my office.
Glad I found this posting site and could read the heartfelt updates. RIP John. You were well-liked.

I didn't realize this until I read other reflections but, my brother and I's birthday is the same day as your wedding anniversary...something he probably already knows. You will alway s be apart of our lives and never forgotten. I know my bro wishes he had been working that night...Christmas, our birthday, and many days throughout the year, we think of you, honor you, and are forever miss your presence.
