Reflections for Trooper Scott Alan Patrick

Trooper Patrick, Rest in peace brother, take care God is with your family. May the wrath of God rain down on your murderer.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Scott did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Scott be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Trooper Patrick's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Scott is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Scott was well respected and well loved.

Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.

You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because it is honored by God.

You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.

To the family of Trooper Scott Patrick and the Indiana State Police, your extended family of Law Enforcement Officers grieves with you during this time. I pray that God will wrap his loving arms around each of you and comfort you during this most difficult time.

To all my brothers and sisters, please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Please pray for this officer's family and friends as they struggle with this tragedy.
May God be with you every day, please remember, we are a part of the largest family in the world and when one hurts we all hurt.

Though our badges and uniforms may be different, our mission is the same. Rest in peace with our other fallen Brothers and Sisters. We will continue the fight in your honor.

To Scott, his family & friends,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Words cannot express to you what I feel. My husband's department recently lost an officer, our friend Matthew Pavelka (E.O.W. 11-15-03) He is young and wonderful like Scott. They fought hard and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for that Scott.

God Bless all of you and the baby on the way. Mrs. Patrick, you may contact me anytime for any reason. My prayers are with you.

Brother in blue, may you rest in peace. Your duty and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To Scott's wife:
My heart aches for you. Reading all of these heartfelt messages has me in tears. I know that you are torn apart right now and will feel that way for a long time. My husband was killed three months ago. I was alone on our first wedding anniversary, Thanksgiving, his birthday, and now Christmas. Lean on your family, friends and police family - they'll be there for you. Most important of all -- keep Scott alive in your heart. Remember the good times and the way he made you smile. Those memories are tough ones to remember and they will make you cry, but they're worth it.
I will keep you in my thoughts.
God bless.

Patrick you will be forever remembered. We will make sure that your child knows the hero that his/her father is. Godspeed warrior "your time in hell is through."

A Part of America Died

Somebody killed a Trooper today
And a part of America died.

A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect who shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights
While a widow and mother must work for the kids
And spend many long lonely nights.

The highways he drove were a battlefield, too
Just as if he had gone off to war
Though the flag of our nation won't fy at half mast,
He won't be home anymore.

Somebody killed a trooper today
It happened in your town and mine
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A Trooper put his life on the line.

Now his ghost spends its days driving lonely highways
And he stands at each rookie's side
A Trooper answered the call...
Of himsef gave his all...
And a part of America... died

Rest in peace my brother we will continue your watch.

There is nothing I can say that will make the pain of in the line of duty death leave. I would like to tell Scott and his family "Thank You". As a trooper I understand the dangers of "working the road". I was working that night also, only I was in North Carolina. The pain of Scott's death is felt here. We never know what we face. Scott had stopped to help someone and lost his life. Stand tall in knowing God is looking at Scott in the eyes now with a smile on his face. His job on the interstates is done and now he can rest in Heaven.
