Reflections for Trooper Scott Alan Patrick

To Trooper Patricks Family I send out deepest condolences. No words can help with the pain you are feeling for this senseless loss. May the memories you have of him bring some light to your day. Peace and Comfort to all.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family, and friends of Officer Patrick. So young to be taken, and I pray that his child knows what a hero he was and will continue to be. God Bless the Patrick Family and all of the officers who protect and serve.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Trooper Patrick I extend deep, heartfelt condolences on behalf of myself and Region 6 of The International Association of Women Police. Every law enforcement officer knows that every contact made has the potential for danger. Merely stopping to help a motorist has turned into a tragedy too terrible and far-reaching to measure. We know that Trooper Patrick touched countless lives; however, the coward that mercilessly shot Trooper Patrick changed the ability for him to do that in this life ever again. We will never know what could have been. With this one act of cowardice, a husband, father, son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, son-in-law, and brother-in-law is gone from the lives of those he loved. The thin blue line is stretched a little thinner with his passing. Godspeed, Patrick, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Scott thought enough about this Bon Jovi song that it was played at his funeral. I have heard the song several times and never really listened to all the words. Since it was a little hard to actually hear allthe lyrics, as it was being played over a high school gymnasium loud speaker system I thought that I would post the words here, as a tribute to Scott.

It's My Life

This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for the faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud

Chorus:
It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life

This is for the ones who stood their ground
For Tommy and Gina who never backed down
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
Got to make your own breaks

Chorus:
It's my life
And it's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
'Cause it's my life

Better stand tall when they're calling you out
Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down

Chorus:
It's my life
And it's now or never
'Cause I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive

Chorus:
It's my life
And it's now or never
'Cause I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
'Cause it's my life!

Put in the context of a Law Enforcement funeral for a 27 year old officer with 3 years on the department, they take on a whole new meaning.

I wish to take this opportunity to send my deepest condolences to the Patrick family and the Indiana State Police.
As a former member of ISP, I am proud to have served with Scott in Lake County, Zone 1. Although I only knew him for a short time, he represented everything the State Police is about. Now that he has given the ultimate sacrifice, he will be eternalized as another hero of the Indiana State Police...
May God bless my brothers and sisters of the Indiana State Police.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:26,27
