Reflections for Patrolman Bryan Scott Verkler

I Think about you every day Bro. Long live the "Maniac" and the loopty loop directions.

Love ya Dude.

Thinking of you and all of your loved ones as Christmas arrives. I know they will forever cherish those special memories they have of you and have them locked away in their broken hearts. Continue to watch over them, protect them and visit them in their dreams so that they can feel your presence and know you are close watching over them. You have not been forgotten.

Juli,
I read this verse today and thought of you. Hope you don't mind me sharing it.
"Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth, you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again" Psalm 71:20,21
Praying for continued comfort for you, every day!

Bryan,

Seeing you on our honeymoon video that I watched last night brought back such great memories. On this day, six years later, it is still so difficult. My chest feels heavy again, and to take a deep breath physically hurts. It's funny, the phrase "Time heals all wounds" is true for some, but not for me. In my lifetime, I never imagined such pain and suffering. Day to day living has become somewhat "normal" but hearing your voice and seeing you on video last night really just threw me. I had forgotten how happy I felt when we were together. I remember looking at you on our second date, looking deep into your beautiful eyes and thinking to myself "I never want to see an ounce of pain in his eyes". This was when I knew you were The One.

Most people live a lifetime of never meeting their SoulMate, so I guess I can't complain. However, my heart will ache a thousand pains because of the life that I know in my heart we were meant to live together. We were meant to marry, which we did. We were also meant to have children, which was totally stolen and robbed from us. I will never understand the paths that life leads us down. But, in my heart, I know that you and I were supposed to life a wonderful life together and that was all taken from us unnecessarily.

I can't pretend to know or understand the whys. I can only try to continue to honor your Ultimate Sacrifice every day by living the life that I do and continuing to help others.

After all of this time, I still refuse to put up a tree or a wreath. Most people don't understand why I hate Christmas. The songs, the lights, all of it just evokes such painful memories of the day that I came home to OUR tree, OUR home and I was told that you would not be coming home with me and that I must pick a funeral home for your body.

I love you and miss you. Now and forever.

Love,
Your Wife

"If Today Was Your Last Day"
Nickelback

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

"Rmember"

Remember me when I am gone away,

Gone far away into the silent land;

When you can no more hold me by the hand,

Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.

Remember me when no more day by day

You tell me of our future that you plann'd:

Only remember me; you understand

It will be late to counsel then or pray.

Yet if you should forget me for a while

And afterwards remember, do not grieve:

For if the darkness and corruption leave

A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,

Better by far you should forget and smile

Than that you should remember and be sad.

What is Death?
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
that we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without affect,
without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.

All is well.

Once in a lifetime relationship...yes that's definitely what we had. I have given up all hope for anything less than that, which means I really am and will always be alone. But...no worries. I have your love in my heart to keep me warm at night baby..

B,
I can't believe it's been 5 years. It seem like only yesterday you were riding your bike to our house and asking for a smoke. Well, a lot has changed in 5 years. There's now a bean in the family and boy would you get a kick out of him. He's one of a kind and it sucks he'll never get to meet the Booger Moose. You don't know how much you are missed and talked about everyday. You have been hanging on our fridge for a long time and I think about you daily but it's just not the same.
