Dean, You are never forgotten, especially today. I cannot believe it has been seven years. One of our twin grandsons is really into COPS and loves the blue uniform. He just may end up being a LEO. You would have really loved him...and he you. When he is older I will tell him about his uncle...look down from heaven motorman.

Another year goes by without you. It's not easy to think about you and not have you, but our hearts rejoice knowing that you left many great memories. God is still working on us to give us strength, and to assure us that you are with him. We remember you, love you and miss you.

Dean, I never met you but I have read all of the entries that your loving wife has entered since your passing. Your wife is a true Blue and Gold wife and I am certain that my wife would write as much as she could if I had passed while on duty. God bless your family. I want to say only that you will not be forgotten and as a fellow Motorman all I can say is God Bless you and God Bless your wife and family.

Dean on Nov. 19th, 2009 There was a Dean Beattie Breakfast put together in your honor, by your very good friends. It had been 6 years since you left us, and that day we were all there to remember you and celebrate your life, I was amazed to see that many people show up, and I am glad nobody has forgotten about you. Your smile is always with us, and as we celebrate Christmas your favorite holiday and New Year your presence is with us. We love you and miss you.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I wanted to take a photograph on Saturday, but the volume of traffic was too great to safely park on the shoulder. This past weekend, I thought about You as I always do when I pass Your Memorial site, on my way to meet fellow Cowboys at a nearby San Diego honky tonk.

May You Rest - In - Peace.

Dean,

I cannot pass the sign on the 163 without remembering your grewat sense of humor. While I've never been a fan of naming freeways, you deserve it.

You are still remembered...

Dean, I was about to pick up the phone and call you the other day. Then I remembered. I sure miss your smile and laugh. James and I will never forget sitting on the couch looking at the photos to the Holy Land that you and Rosa took. The happiness you had at sharing the stories gives me happiness.

I still here your crazy holler when the bee flew into your helmet, and the laugh you had when I fell over the "high side" while working radar with you.

I miss you every day.

Brother Beattie,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue

To Officer Dean Beattie, his family and friends, and fellow officers.

On this the second anniversary of your tragic death, please know that you are not forgotten. Your valor and dedication will be forever honored.
Rest In Peace, Officer Beattie.

In reading the reflections about you, it is obvious that many people respected you, loved and admired you. You were definitely a person of light as your faith in God was remarked on by so many.

You gave freely of yourself here on earth and I know you are watching over all of us now. It is also clear that you were a great father to all your children and that you and your wife shared an incredible love.

May your family continue to be cared for by their law enforcment family and other police survivors.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of distinquished service Officer Beattie gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 19, 2003.
