Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Bruce Allen Williams

Went to Bradys funeral today. That's the second one in 2 months. Thought of you at Tims but this one...Brady came out to the road to fill your spot. Heather was strong just like Val. And the babies he left behind. I am sure you are already telling him how to play pranks on us from up there and how to watch out over his family like you still do oh so well! Thansk fo rbeing such a good example for all of us.

On the 5th anniversary of Deputy Williams' death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Deputy Williams is not forgotten.

Bruce,
Tomorrow will mark 5 years that you were taken abruptly from us. It seems so much tougher this year. Green Lake Co. honored you yesterday and said not to grieve but look ahead. It is so hard. I wish you were here to talk to. You would be so proud of how your girls have grown. Ben mentions several times that he wished he knew you better. We will always remember and "NEVER FORGET". We miss and love you deeply.

Bruce,

I have a very early morning and I should be sleeping. A current event leaves me awake and reflecting on life. I’m thinking of where my path has lead. I have to give a great deal of credit to you for being such an inspirational person to me. Words never seem to be enough to thank you! I still read your reflections often. It makes me see that I like others have to move on even though time does not heal the loss. YOU ARE STILL MISSED EVERYDAY- HEROES LIVE FOREVER!!!

It's been four plus years and it never really gets any easier. Life keeps happening and we're not all where we used to be, but Goose, damn, I still miss you and think of you all the time. I think of you like you're still there, it's just me that's gone away.
Keep watching over me buddy, Heaven knows I need ya!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

dear mike thank you for sharing your story about your brother bruce at the cpa class tuesday night. words can not tell you how i felt after that class. alot of reflecting on life itself and how fortunate we are to have that gift of life. live everyday likes its yourlast because like in bruces case you just dont know what could happen. mike- it takes alot of guts and courage to do what you are doing not only going out on the streets everynight but to get up in front of individuals you dont know and tell them your story. always remember its ok to shed a tear. i think it takes a real man to shed a tear. not a tear of sorrow but a lasting tear of love. one that you definetly have for your brother. I KNOW I DID sincerely mike doleschy

I keep thinking it'll be easier. It's not. We lost so much 4 years and 9 days ago! I keep trying to move past it. And I can see the look on your face when you had pulled something over on someone and were just waiting...waiting for them to get it! I laugh but as it is for all of us, I think the laughter at the times we had only make us miss you more! "we can all be stupid sometimes." YUP! I think you'd be proud of everyone. --Except for the fact that we all keep crying! Thanks for being there each year at the ride. We see you. Each year with the hawk in the morning, & the butterfly as we saddle up. As we come up to A I can hear you say, "Don't you dare! Don't cry. If I was there I would be riding next to you!" And you would be ---or making fun of us all! Gone but NEVER forgotten!

Bruce,

One of the first songs I heard this morning on my way to work was Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" and it brought both tears and laughter to me. The tears in that it has been 4 long years since you were taken from us and it still does not seem fair. The laughter in the family vacation we took out west when you and Michael were playing the song loudly. Thank goodness for the awesome memories of you that we have to treasure everyday.

Love ya,
Michele

Bruce,

I still know you are watching over me. I was thinking about you today and received numerous signs that were much more than coincidence. You are still able to guide me when times get tough. I am definitely not perfect by any means, but I still find your guidance as a source to direct me. I thank you for your continued presence.

You are still missed everyday and “HEROES LIVE FOREVER”.

Happy Birthday Bruce ! We miss you so much and think of you often. Took Brianna shopping the other day. You would be so proud of your girls. They are growing up as you well know. We still talk about you often with them or tell them a funny story about you. Ben is loving the game of baseball and I wish you could throw him a couple to hit. Please continue to be our guardian angel. Love and miss you forever.
