Reflections for Narcotics Officer Donnie Reno Washington

Donnie...It has been 6 years and some days it feels like yesterday. I wish I could be in SC celebrating and honoring your life...with your family. My heart will always be there with your family and friends....and I am rockin' your memorial t-shirt at work today...SMILE!
Written on the back it states, "You are never afraid when you know who walks beside you", we are never afraid when we know we have Angels like you amongst us Donnie, you are forever beautiful!

Much Love,

I'm still missing you. Lord knows your smile could brighten any day. I don't think the hurt will ever really go away. You were so unique in such a wonderful way. I'm so glad to know that we never parted without I love you's so I know in my heart of hearts that no matter what, there was never a moment when you didn't feel loved.

Another day without you bro goes by. You were the only one that really understood the things I did and the things I was going through. You never judged me you only tried your best to guide me. Eventhough I had to travel a rough path it was your guidance and the love we shared as brothers that seen me through it. I'm putting my life back together and it could only be better if you were still here. I'm choking up bro so I'm going to breeze on thru but I'll be talking to you later fam. Love you "sweet" Hot Shot

Sweet,

I still think of you and I wanted you to know:) I know that I really only knew you for a moment in the scope of YOUR life...however I really want you to know that...that one "moment" in MY life (when I met you)... will forever be one of my favorite past times when I look back on the best days of my life :)

I will forever keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Donnie,

You're constantly on our hearts, and not a day goes by that we don't think about all the wonderful memories of you. It's been five years now - but it seems like yesterday we heard that sweet laughter and saw that warm, bright smile.

We love you dearly!!!

Sweet...I'm back...

It's summer time...our time of the year and its not the same without you! Time has passed and everyone said that time will heal all...its been over 4 years and to some that is considered alot of time and my pains still haven't gone away.

There is a song out now that makes me think of you. Its by Marvin Sapp...called Never Would Have Made It. When I hear that song it takes me back to alot of things we talked about and shared and I weep thinking about you. I know you would love that song as you are probably jamming to it in heaven.

I miss you dearly and everytime I have a bleak moment I pull out your letters and cards which always make me laugh and cry tears of joy to know that we shared a true friendship. I also pull out my IPOD and listen to Never would have made it cuz it was truly those rocky times that I could always count on your words of encouragement, your laugh, your prayers and that oh so beautiful smile would one way or another change the course of my day. Life is great but it's no where near the same without you here my friend. I love you forever and miss you something terrible.

One thing that brings me great comfort Sweet is knowing that a part of you lives on in your son and he will grow up to be a little 'you'. He will bless the earth and touch the lives of everyone that comes across his path with that beautiful smile and beautiful spirit just as you did as he carries you with him.

Prayers and much respect to the Washington family

I'll see you one day soon

Four years have passed, but it seems like just yesterday that we lost such a shining star in our lives. We think about you daily and know one day we'll see you again.

It is just now I have learned of the death of Officer Donnie Washington after all this time. We had lost touch, but out of sight did not mean out of mind. I just happend to be visiting the RCSD and whizzed by when I recognized that sweet face and smile in the memorial. The news has left my heart feeling burdened and very saddened.
We knew each other as good friends for a few years, but it felt like a lifetime. You were such a good person and friend. Sweet is what you were. You will be truly missed by all.
I did not know your family personally, but we spoke of them enough to make me feel like I was part of the family. May god bless them with the comfort and love that you would have given them. May God Bless your infant son and provide him with nothing but goodness.
My friend you were truly a reflection of God's goodness and love..I am sad that you have parted ways with us, but comforted by the thoughts that you have gone to be with our father in heaven. Again out of sight does not mean out of mind.
On behalf of the community we cannot thank you enough for your service.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I had the pleasure of meeting Donnie Washington in the mid 90's while in Mrytle Beach, SC at the bike festival and I've called him a friend ever since. Sweet was indeed that "sweet", he had the biggest heart, the warmest smile and was always the perfect gentleman. He loved his family, he loved his job as he often had stories to tell. We lost touch a few years ago and I recently ran across an individual from the Lancaster area and inquired about Donnie and was given the news of his untimely death! My heart is so so very heavy and my eyes won't stop crying.

To Donnie's family - know that the job God made for Sweet to do here on earth (protect and serve his community, touch the lives of those he came in contact with)has been done and its been a job well done! God has called Sweet home to rest now. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as I know you miss him terribly because I do too.

Donnie - you will never ever be forgotten, I can still see your smile and hear your laugh! I know you are looking down on us. I will always remember and cherish our friendship there is none other like you! Rest in peace my friend. I'll see you one day soon and when I do have the motorcycle running and my matching helmet and riding suit ready (smile)!

Donnie,
Your beautiful spirit is terribly missed. It was so comforting to find this web site today and see the thoughts that people have left for my brother and friend. It means the world to me that people recognize that your death was not in vain. You committed to serving and protecting us and that is the thought that keeps your family going. You are missed each and every day.
My love always,

Donnie I loved you for so long. We fought like cats and dogs but I still cared for you. You were not only my brother in blue you were also my brother in blue and white (Zeta Phi Beta). Your death has touch me so deeply that it has given me time to reflect on the things in life that are important, family, children, friends. Thank you for the years that we got to know one another and thank you for all the love you have given me. You are truly one of God's angels. To your Grandmother--I know you will miss Donnie he was your heart but as you have told me in the past God calls the good ones home and he did just that when he called for Donnie. Here is a prayer for you Donnie...

The Police Officers Prayer

Oh Almighty God, whose great power and eternal wisdom embraces the universe.

Watch over all policemen and law enforcement officers.

Father in Heaven please give them the strength, courage and perseverance to endure

The unjust condemnation, danger, and physical abuse to which they are at times subjected.

We recommend them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous.

Dear God, grant these brave men your almighty protection,

Unite them safely with their families after duty has ended.

Amen

To all of us who knew "Sweet"...I know your pain is as great as mine but be comforted in knowing Donnie would not want it that way. He IS the Definition of a professional, friend, and warrior. We will miss your smile and your friendship but will never forget the years you shared with us. We will miss you but take comfort in knowing where you are spending eternity.
