It will be 2 years since you were called away and I know the pain and broken hearts of your family and close friends have not mended nor will they ever. There are no words I can say to comfort your family except that I know their pain. You will never be forgotten and are a true hero.

Bob really made an impact on alot of people, including many students through his teaching, and the DARE program.
I knew him for quite a few years, and he was always smiling and a heckuva nice guy. It really saddened me when I heard the news of his death. I thought BOb would always be around.
God bless you Bob.

Mr. Hansel was a great mentor to me while I attended James A. Cawood High School. He was my band director, someone I could talk to, someone that gave me peace away from the stifes of family life. He inspired me to audition for the Army Band, I not believing I was good enough was convinced to go by Mr. Hansel, I passed the audition just as Mr Hansel told me I would. I can remember Mr. Hansel being there for me when in my times of turmoil, and i can remember him giving me a kick in the butt when needed, he always kept me straight. Im so glad I went to the highschool and had the opportunity to see him a few years back, I will miss going to see him there. God bless you Mr. Hansel, may you rest in peace, and knowing you, you are probably in heaven trying to change all the uniforms as well as the music~ Rana

Mr. Hansel was a wonderful man! He took time for the kids from across the mountain to teach them about music and life. He was a great asset to the community!

Mr. H was my band teacher my freshman year of high school and was the greatest! He was such a personable person whom anyone could go to and talk. He always was smiling and understanding about everything you were going through. He is so missed by everyone who knew him. Having a husband who is a State Trooper meant that this really hit home on many sides of the issue. No only was he a friend, but a fellow brother in arms. I pray Robert, Taylor and Robin find some peace as time travels on in this situation. I really didn't know Sandy too well, but she had to be a good woman to have Bob. Rest in peace Mr. H, your work here is done!! God Bless!

Mr. Hansel (HAMCHOP) was my teacher at Grenn Hill in the 70's. This man could play any band instrument made. He coached basketball. He did it all. I remember how he use to get my brother (Joey) and the other kids in the community and take them fishing. And he had the first VHS player I had ever seen. And the movie was Superman. I will miss U.

Bob was a very close friend and I miss him tremendously. We worked together on weekends when he and I were officers with the Harlan Police Dept. I always respected him. He never failed to let you know where he stood on various issues and always respected your views as well. Bob was a great comfort to me when I lost my only brother (Tony) back in '02. Bob was one of the last person's to have talked with Tony on the day Tony had the car crash. Tony had written down his telephone number for Bob to call him that evening. Bob gave me the little piece of paper with his number scribbled on it, after Tony's funeral. I can hear Tony greeting Bob in heaven "Hey Wildman!, Sorry I didnt get to call you!"

It has been one year since you left us.
This has been a week of remembering with smiles, tears and reflections.
We miss you. You were a great friend to the young and old and all those in between. Thanks for being an inspiration to so many while you were here. You are truly one of those that left "touched hearts" on those you met on life's journey.

Im a resident of Lynch Kentucky. My grandfather Franklin Roberts worked with Hansel, as a police officer in Harlan Kentucky. Hansel taught a drug class to me and some friends and siblings of mine. Robert was a great person and will always be remembered in everything we do. I ride a bus from school sometimes and I get off the bus at Gap Branch Stop. Robert lives right across the street and I have to walk right beside his house and My mother sometimes parks beside his cars. I didnt know Robert very personally ( as a friend of mine or my parents) but he taught me a drug class, he was a great person and teacher. We have a overhead at Cumberland Elementary and on the side it reads " Hansel " and everytime I see it, it brings tears to my eyes, because its hard enough passing up his house and vehicles day by day. My condolences go out to The Hansel Family for always and forever, I know how it is to lose a loved one , I lost my father 7 years ago whenever I was 6 1/2... Hansel and his family will always be in my prayers.. HANSEL WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.. WE WILL REMEMBER HIM IN EVERYTHING WE DO... D.A.R.E
