Sergeant Pratt,

God Bless you and your family. You gave everything to the city of Omaha, and paid the ultimate sacrifice. The job of police officer is often thankless, but you performed your duties with courage, honor, and dignity. Though your body has since been laid to rest, your soul will forever live on, and you now make Heaven a safer place. Thank you for your service and dedication to our city. You will never be forgotten.

As a new recruit I fully understand the meaning of this job as I am sure you did. You gave all and you will never be forgotten only remembered fondly by those of us who never truely had the opportunity to meet you. You give officers like myself the strength to go forward with the grace of god and though you left early what a glorious place to be in the arms of our LORD...god bless Ofc Pratt!

I just read about Tye's last words with his Dad. I understand the irony of last words spoken sometimes before a loved one dies. My first husband and I also spoke words to each other that we never dreamed would be sending a final message to me. Mr. Pratt, I'm so glad you shared that last moment with Tye, telling him that you loved him and touching your precious son. These are the things you can hold close to your heart - knowing there is no regret on your part that you missed a chance express your love to Tye. May the Lord keep your family in his loving care & I'm sure Calvin and Tye have shared some fun in heaven by now. They will never be forgotten.

To Sgt. Jason "Tye" Pratt, his wife and beautiful daughters, his parents, and his other loved ones:

Please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.
Reading the loving reflections about your beloved Tye gives us some understanding of what a kind and honorable man he was, and what a passion he had for life.

In reading about him, I saw some common threads between Tye and my son Larry. Both died by gunfire from wounds in places that vests didn't help; both were murdered by a despicable criminal who was fleeing from a crime and bailed out of a wrecked car to shoot responding officers in an ambush from thick foliage and bushes; both died leaving young children although Larry's son was born three months after Larry's murder.

Unless you have been through this, you cannot fully comprehend that the fatal shots don't just kill our beloved fallen officer, but they kill a part of everyone who cares for them. To his parents, I share your agony of losing your beloved child.

To his friend Steve Martinez: your words about your friend evoked so many feelings by their powerful and genuine message of caring.

Tye, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Sgt. Pratt. I am humbled by your valor, courage, and dedication.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Tye gave to his community and the citizens of Nebraska, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 19, 2003.
