Rest in Peace Brother...you will never be forgotten

I can't believe this has happened. It seems like yesterday that I spoke with you on the phone about your job and how much you loved working as a Spokane Deputy. I was so happy that you guys were doing so well in Spokane and we were just talking about planning a trip to visit. I remember the fun times we all had and how you always made me feel at home both at Camp Pendleton and at Ft. Sill. You were an inspiration as a father, husband, and friend and I feel honored to have known you and will never forget your kindness. You were my friend and brother of the badge and we will always be there for your family.

Jim,
Its with a heavy heart that we write this. We all loved and respected you. You were a model of integrity and hard work and are sadly missed. We are all mourning your loss and its hard for us to do any work. We all hoped we would never have to go through losing a brother and a friend. We try to be angry but are just sad. Don't worry about your family, we will take care of them as we know that you would have. We'll miss you on the basketball court in the mornings buddy. Dusty will take care of you.

Jim,

While attending police academy with you, you inspired all of us. You tought us discipline, self confidence and you were always the first to pat someone on the back. You are a true hero that always put your family first.

I thank you for your service to our country and our community. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You are a true brother that will never be forgotten.

When our time on this earth ends the true measure of a man is not how much money he made, or what job he held. The true measure is what kind of husband, father or friend he was. You my brother attained the highest level man can achieve, as you were true to yourself, your family and your friends. Rest in peace, and know you will live on in all of us.

DEAR FAMILY,

I DID NOT KNOW OFFICER SLATER PERSONALLY, BUT AS A 911/CRIME CHECK OPERATOR, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET TO KNOW SOME OF THE OFFICERS. I HAVE HEARD HE WAS A GREAT OFFICER AND FAMILY MAN.

I HAVE A BROTHER THAT IS A DETECTIVE WITH THE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT AND I KNOW I WOULD BE DEVASTATED IF ANYTHING WERE TO HAPPEN TO HIM.

I WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS AND I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOUR FAMILY.

To the Family and Co-Workers of Deputy Jim Slater:

It is with great sorrow that we have come to know of Deputy Slater's death. Another fine Washington law enforcement officer has made the ultimate sacrifice! We held our breath when we heard that Deputy Slater had survived his accident and prayed for his recovery. His accident was so similar to our son Matthew's that the tragedy replays our horror once more.

Please know that the thoughts and prayers of many are with you. We pray for the peace of God to be with you over the coming months and years. Rest assured that the memory of your son, husband, father, brother, and friend will never be forgotten.

I see it's been 40 years since your department has lost a deputy. But here in WA state we have seen alot of sadness with the recent passing of
Deputy Gallegos of Chelan County and Federal Way Police Officer Patrick Maher a month ago. This month also marks the 2nd anniversary of the
death of our own Whatcom County Deputy Matt Herzog. My heart goes out to your family, your wife and daughters and your fellow leos. It is a
long road to healing that lies ahead, but I know that our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ will extend His mercy and comfort to all who reach out to Him. There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do, but what He did for us!! AMEN! Thank you for your tremendous sacrifice in your few short years of service. There is now a huge void that cannot be filled. God be with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to
come.
