I am so sad to learn of the loss of Deputy Sheriff James Jospeh Slater. My prayers and thoughts go out this wife, family, co-workers.

Since the death of Officer Saul here in Chelan, Wa. I have been coming to this web site to support law enforcement.
How sad that so many have been taken from their love ones, friends, and co-workers.
Thank You Deputy Sheriff James for caring enough to become a police officer.
Rest in peace

Thanks Marine for making our world and your community a safe place to live. You marched your way through the toughest military bootcamp in the universe and served us proud as a U.S. Marine. You without a seconds hesitation continued your service to your comunity as a Police Officer and gave your life responding to the assistance of another officer. For that your contribution is unmatched. Congradulations on your new duty assignment for you have now been given orders for the M.O.S. that is sought by a U.S. Marine and a Police Officer. Semper Fi, Brother and Carry On Marine!!

It is a sad sight to see so many officers killed in accidents due to unsafe police cars. When will they fix this problem. These are our "offices" and we spend most of our time in them protecting and serving. Thinking back to another officers words "I am not scared of getting shot, stabbed, or even run down... its part of the job and I accept that... I am scared that my vehicle will get me first." Rest in peace Officer. God bless you and your family.

Gone is the smile, the joy-
the tears of anguish and pride-
the life of a peacekeeper required to be above
reproach and unmarked by brutality, while
remaining compassionate and understanding
towards the brutal.

Taken is the companion who yesterday walked among
us-today lies before us draped in honor and
solemnly escorted to the final rest.

Left behind are the questions, memories and grief

Left behind are the loved ones who hold close the faith that
the soul departed now sleeps in a place of
everlasting peace,

Left behind are we who wear the badge and carry foreward
the service. We who secretly believe one day the
lion and lamb shall lie together and the violent
reasons for our ultimate sacrifice will be gone.

The few times that I saw Deptuy James SLater he always wore a smile and seemed to be very comfortable with himself; and at peace. My heart aches for his wife and daughters, and pray they will be comforted by knowing he did his best.

Mariam and the Girls,
I write this thinking to myself, "What do I say to the wife of a fallen hero, when everyday I fear I will be in your shoes?".
As a wife of a deputy in Spokane County, I so often everyday smile and kiss my husband goodbye and then worry and pray for his safe return home. In this time of your sorrow and grief I pray for the Lord to strengthen you today and in all your tomorrow's.
As each new day comes with the sun know in your heart that Jim is shining on your face and when it might rain, that those tears from Jim are for all your sadness.
Jim is truly a hero and now stands with God, under his command. My prayers and love for you and the girls.

Deputy Slater

You served your country well and your city well, rest easy knowing that we will continue on in your memory and name, as a former U. S. Marine I will think fondly that you and I may have "humped" the same hills and served in the same places at one time or another, I transitioned from the Marines into Law Enforcment like many of us, it seemed like the logical choice. To your wife and children I hope that they know that you died doing what you loved, protecting them and your community, until we meet again brother.

To the friends and family of Deputy Slater,
My heart grieves with you at the loss of your husband, father and friend. Too many good men have to die in this battle that we participate in. We do it by choice because only a few get called for this line of work. Deputy Slater served his country twice. Once in the military and then serving the citizen's of Spokane County. He has gotten the final promotion: not to Sgt or Detective but to one who is now serving in GOD's patrol. Rest easy Deputy Slater, you will not be forgotten.
