To the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Maher, May God bless and keep you during this time.
Having just lost a friend and co-worker at my agency, I know something about how you are feeling.
As officers, we must keep going forward and finish the fight that Officer Maher fought. It is for our fallen brothers and sisters that we continue.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Coporal Brent Patterson
Chelan County Sheriff's Office

I do not know officer Maher, but that does not matter. He is a brother officer and he gave the ultimate sacrafice for the citizens of Federal Way and for all the citizens of the U.S.A. He will not be forgotten and he and his family will be blessed. I just want to say thank you, officer Maher, for serving all of us and for being such an excellent example of a true hero. I will pray for you and for your family. From all 10,000+ of us at the CHP (thank you and God bless you).

To those of you who did not have the pleasure of knowing Pat Maher, I want you to know that you missed knowing a tremendous individual. I chose Officer Maher to be my XO when I had Coast Guard Station Beach Haven, NJ. He was a dedicated public servant and a responsible and loving husband and father to his two children. He lived to do law enforcement and it was my pleasure to help get him into Coast Guard Intelligence and the end of his tour of duty at Beach Haven. All who knew him as he passed through their lives will remember his ready smile, sense of humor and dedication to his fellow officers, his community and his country. I have kept up with Officer Maher as he served in Honolulu and now in the lower 48. I will never forget him or his sacrifice to his fellow man.
Respectfully,

As one of the members forever in my heart of the graduating class of HPD's 124th, Pat will be in my fondest memories of a fine person and a couragous officer.

Literally the day after we lay Officer Ryan Goto to rest we hear of the loss of Officer Maher...

Although I never had the opportunity to work with Patrick, our paths would cross numerous times at the station. He was obviously well liked and respected by his beat partners. When he decided to leave the Honolulu Police department for better pay in Washington, no one could blame him as he was trying to make a better life for his family. Even though he relocated to Washington, he is still considered our brother in blue. He sacrificed his life to protect others...he died a hero.

My prayers to his wife and children, the officers of the Federal Way Police Department and the rest of the brotherhood in blue. I do know that Patrick is in very good company now with all the other heroes who have left us too soon...

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

To Officer Patrick Maher, Family and members of the FWPD...
Although I have not seen Pat in many years, we have followed eachothers life through the eyes of a mutual friend.
Pat was my boss and friend at USCG Station Beach Haven. He was a great leader. At 17 years old, I was new to the world of Law Enforcement. Working with Pat helped me grow into the Police Officer I am today. To all who knew Patrick I grieve with you during this time. Officer Patrick Maher, Your tour of duty has ended you are relieved by ALL officers around the world....Rest in peace...YOU EARNED IT.

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY
RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE

" IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE WILL PAY
MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS

THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST
MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME
AND WITH HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE
I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST
DEAR GOD, LET MY NAME BE THE LAST
Please say a prayer for all of our law enforcement officers across the nation.

Danette Jensen (citizen from Auburn)

Policeman's 23rd Psalm
(Author Unknown)

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.
