I read this and thought of you...you can't build this...and looking at your decisions, you taught by example...I certainly miss you calling people like you see 'em!
Miss you,
Erin

"Yet, no amount of studied books and no amount of diplomas can produce integrity. Integrity is not something that can be achieved in school, regardless or the school’s fame and in the same time, integrity is the most wanted quality, especially in positions of great responsibility.

It is very interesting to observe that you can see a person’s character in the smallest things, it doesn’t take much to realize if you can rely on a person or not. The one who is honest in the small things will also be honest in the big ones and the one who lacks integrity in small things will not have it in important matters as well.

Consequently, think about this: has your friend lied about buying milk instead of cherries or soap instead of washing powder? (This is just an example of small matters) If so, don’t be surprised when he/she’ll lie about important things as well…in fact that is only a matter of time.

Sometimes we think we can change people…well, I wouldn’t count on that, I’d let God do that job if He will.

There was a company that recruited personnel and they said "We don’t hire people to motivate them; we hire motivated people". It is something like that with integrity too.

I’ll let you read what presidents and other people said during the history about the importance of integrity in one’s character:

"Truthfulness is the main element of character." - Brian Tracy

"There is no pillow so soft as a clear conscience." French Proverb

'They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin

"From long familiarity, we know what honor is. It is what enables the individual to do right in the face of complacency and cowardice. It is what enables the soldier to die alone, the political prisoner to resist, the singer to sing her song, hardly appreciated, on a side street." Mark Helprin

"Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones." Phillips Brooks

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved." Helen Keller (1880-1968) American blind and deaf writer/lecturer

"The best index to a person's character is (a) how he treats people who can't do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can't fight back." Abigail Van Buren ("Dear Abby") advice columnist

"The measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he never would be found out." Thomas Babington Macaulay (1800-1859) - British writer and politician

"Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, riches take wing, and only character endures." Horace Greeley (1811-1872) - New York newspaper editor

"A man's character is his fate." Heraclitus (c. 540 - c. 480 BC) - Greek philosopher

Big or small, rich or poor, we all like to deal with honest people, people of their word."

Richie,
We missed you so much on Father's Day. The kid's were thinking of you and know how lucky they are to have you as their dad. Alot has been going on and I need your strength and guidance. Katelyn graduated on Wednesday. I am so proud of her and I know you are too. She has grown into such a caring, strong, dedicated young woman. She has your sense of duty to others, which is a quality I have always admired. Stay close and continue to watch over us. We love you.

Richie- The last few days, everything has reminded me of you and I miss you so much. I really pray hard that you help me with some very hard decisions. I want to avoid jumping into and out of things before thinking things through. Help me use my brain not just my heart or what would be "nice for right now". I know it always comes back to bite you in the end. Thanks for being so rational and thinking things through...it reminds me to do the same :)

Love,
Erin

Thinking the faster that I go, The faster that I will reach my goal
The race is not given to the swift, But to the one who endureth
I thought that all my obstacles were behind me
Walking around like I’m made out of diamond
I tripped and fell and it reminded me

Move over and let my angels guide me

Slow down, baby you’re going too fast
You got you hands in the air, With you feet on the gas
You’re ’bout to wreck your future
Running from your past
You need to slow down before, You go down baby

Move over and let your angels guide you

Hey dad,
Sorry I haven't written in awhile. Well I made the big decision and I will attending Millersville University in the fall. I thought you would also be happy to know I got into your college West Chester. I have a lot of friends goiong to PSU, so don't worry I will still be up there for as many games as I can. I have been keeping your words in my mind at all times lately, this being my senior year and all. I know you would tell me "to relax and just have fun legs." With graduation coming up I know you will be with me all of the way. When I go off to college keep mom, kel, connor, and megs safe and most of all happy.

P.S. Say hi to Pa, Tara, Mr. Pifer, and Jewels for me!

Hi I miss you. Whenever I've had a tough day or need a shoulder to cry on I find myself coming here. Send some of your strength my way.

April 22, 2008

Yo Bubba,

What a week it has been here, you know, you have been with all of us. I know you are so proud, your family stood up to the task with the utmost dignity and respect, all the things the Pifer family needed and nothing less then what you taught them.

Rich,
Please welcome Jimmy and assist him on his new post. Please help the family and all of us get through this time. I know you are proud of your family! They have been there for Rosa and the kids despite how difficult it must be. We miss you and thank you for what you gave us.

Richie,
It's been a tough week as you know. Your fellow police officer, neighbor and friend, Jim Pifer, passed away. We are all keeping Rosa and the kids in our prayers and trying to help them as much as we can. Please help guide us as we try to help this family cope with the loss we all still deal with every day. You would be so proud of your children's strength and compassion. They want to help the Pifer children handle this tragedy just like you always helped people in need. We also lost our beloved Jewels. She tried so hard to recover but in the end went peacefully to be with you. We love and miss you always, but this week it's been a trip back in time for us. Give us your strength. Stay close.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Just wanted to say how proud you would be of your daughters Katelyn and Kelly. They are in this years Youth Musical and are very talented young women. Katelyn is the lead with several singing solo's (She has such a wonderful voice and stage presence). To think last year she wasn't sure if she could get in front of a crowd, now she is a leader. Needless to say the production staff and the cast are very proud of both of them.

Merry Christmas Richie! It is Christmas Eve and I miss you so much. We were all at your parents for the family dinner and I found myself looking around at all the kids laughing and playing and thinking how much you would be loving it. There are so many new nieces and nephews and in-laws that you didn't even get to know. They are all so awesome and adding more love and happiness to the family, but there's still that big empty space that only you could fill.I can't believe I have spent 5 Chritmases without you.The kids and I have carried on your tradition of 12 Days and we still hang your stocking, but we still miss you so much. I especially miss you as I'm sitting here with the kids off in bed and I'm looking at the Christmas tree thinking of all our happy Christmases. I know your in a better place and that helps. Keep close and know you are always in my heart. Merry Christmas!

Hi Richie,
I miss you so much. Since you've been gone from us I got married to a woderful man and had a beautiful baby. It kills me that my new family never got to know you. I tell them about you but it's just not the same. I don't think I could truely get across how awesome you were to all of us with just words. I am so blessed to have had a big brother like you in my life but more importantly a friend like you. I miss you all the time. I see you in your children. They are great kids. Merry Christmas friend.
