Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Kelli Lee Lambert

On behalf of the Ohio University Police Department, we extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and fellow officers of Kelli Lambert. Have comfort in knowing that she gave her life for what she had devoted her life to: protecting and serving. She will be forever in our hearts and honored eternally. May God be with all of us in this time of loss.

“My Badge at Heart”

We band of Brothers and Sisters have fought so very hard
Protected our streets, our people, their homes
Protected the children, the aged and the tired
Protected each other, our brothers and our sisters
We prayed every night and every day since we swore to protect and uphold
God, let us return to those who too are so brave
Our mothers and fathers our brothers and sisters
God let me once again hold my wife, my husband, my sons and my daughters
Allow me to picnic with my family, celebrate a wedding, and sing happy birthday
God, please let me live to teach my sons to play catch and to watch my daughters dance
Please let me grow old with love, compassion, and strength
But most of all God, if you need me to lay down my life for another
Please, please tell my family, my loved ones, and my friends
I died not in vain, I sought no heroics
I died doing what I was proud to do
I died being who I was proud to be
I died, my badge at heart

My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family and friends and to your department. Wellston is my hometown and I started as an auxillary there. You made the ultimate sacrifice and I know you will not be forgotten. My heart sank tonight as I learned of your sacrifice. Thank you for your dedicated service. May God Bless You.

My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Lambert. The thoughts and prayers of the members of the International Association of Women Police go out to all who suffer Kelli’s loss. The "Thin Blue Line" is stretched a little thinner with her passing. We all know some of the reasons Officer Lambert put on her uniform and went to work every day, and she leaves that will with those who are left behind. Godspeed, Kelli.

To another fallen officer's friends, family and coworkers do not forget those that have gone before as they have been waiting to greet the fallen memebrs of law enforcement everywhere with open arms.

As my telephone rang, while in Florida, I looked at the caller ID. When I saw it was OhioCOPS President Linda Pope calling, my heart instantly sunk. I had a bad feeling in my gut - that we had lost another brother or sister while bravely doing their job. My feelings were confirmed, as Linda informed me of the traumatic events.

Later, while walking along the beach, looking at the beautiful sky and ocean, I quietly asked God to hold this brave sister close, and heal her wounds.

It's not for us to ask why. It is for us to carry on the work of this fallen officer, as we have done too many times before.

May God be with this sister's family, her co-workers and friends during their time of loss.

Thank God, for the time that this "blue angel" was "on loan" to us.

May God Bless You, rest in Peace.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer. Tonight, July 22, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of P.O. Kelli Lambert who died just yesterday.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Lambert's sacrifice will never be forgotten.
