Reflections for Sergeant Michael Anthony Fitzgerald

Deputy Fitzgerald may the lord continue to watch over your family and keep them safe from harms way. You will be missed my brother.

Sgt. James L. Mayes
Shelby County Sheriffs Office

God Speed, Brother.

P.O.K. Murphy
Union PD, NJ

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Deputy Fitzgerald for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

To the Family, Deputies, and Staff of the Moore County Sheriff's Office,

No words can be said at this moment of your loss to ease your pain and suffering. Fitz was an excellent friend, co-worker, and and was loved by all who knew him. He will be missed and remembered with fond memories. The world was a greater place with him in it and a lesser place without him here. You just don't find people like Fitz anymore, kind, caring, and willing to give you the shirt off his back. He will truely be missed. Rest in peace.

Officer Curtice Spencer 1308

Rest in Peace Fitz, We will all miss you.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Mike be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Deputy Fitzgerald's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Mike is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Mike was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

I am very sadden to hear of another wonderful officer loosing his life in the line of duty. I lost my fiance a yr ago and I still grieve. My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Sheriff Mike Fitzgerald. I know the days and nights will be very difficult. Keep your faith in the Lord. My days without Jaime are very confusing and I tend to do things out of the normal. So I understand all that you are going thru and the pain and tears you will endure. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!!!

FIANCE OF A FALLEN HERO E.O.W 5/16/2002

God Bless...

Deputy Fitzgerald,

I mourn your loss; the loss of your life, the loss to your community, the loss to your comrades, and certainly the loss to your family. I hope that if you did not have the opportunity to know St. Michael in this cruel world that you are getting to know him in Heaven.

I am saddened that your death was the result of yet another fatal automobile accident. Far too many of us are killed by one of our most useful tools. It is ironic that we frequently survive all the domestics, traffic stops, search warrants, and other recognized dangers, just to be felled by our own “shop.”

An old sergeant once told me that he did not fear dying from smoking, eating poorly, no sleep, or hoodlums – because his Crown Vic would get him first. That is not intended to be a joke, just a pragmatic view of what is sometimes the sad truth.

God bless your eternal soul.

Deputy Chris Harper, 129
Putnam County SO, Georgia

Rest easy my Brother...you will remain in our hearts forever. May God comfort your family and reassure them that we will be here for them...always. God Bless you Blue Angel

Having recently completed a refresher course in Tactical/Emergency Vehicle Operations, I'm newly reminded of the dangers present in simply responding to a situation requiring the presence of law enforcement. I pray that Deputy Fitzgerald's loss will be the last loss of it's type this year.

May God comfort Dep. Fitzgerald's family, friends and colleagues during this tragic period of loss.

On behalf of the Detroit Chapter of the FBI Agent's Association, I send my condolences to his family, friends and department.

YBIC!

On behalf of the men and women who serve and work for the Georgia Perimeter College Police Department, our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Mike Fitzgeralds family, friends, and co-workers with the Moore County Sheriff's Office.

God Bless. Now you can walk Heaven's beat.

None of us knows when our time is going to come, but I believe that is especially true in the case of Law Enforcement Officers. The "Street Cop" is either a friend or foe - a foe when doing your job and a friend when your services are needed. I used to be coffee drinking buddies with members of the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff's Department. I never failed to tell them "Be Careful Out There!" My prayers, thoughts and condolences are with Deputy Fitzgerald's family, friends, co-workers and the Moore County Sheriff's Office. Rest in Peace, for your time is done!!!!!

Immigration Officer Bill Flinchum
Department of Homeland Security

To the family, friends and coworkers of Deputy Fitzgerald may God be with you all in this terrible time of loss. Rest in peace Deputy Fitzgerald and Thank you for a job well done.
