GONE NEVER FORGOTTEN RIP BROTHER JOB WELL DONE.

Over 200 years have past since you made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. I can't imagine how much tougher the job was back then, but one thing hasn't changed. There will always be people out there that want to do us harm, but men like you will always stand and fight for what is right. You are an inspiration to all of us that wear a badge.

As far as we know, you were the first. Unfortunately you were'nt the last. You are not now, nor will you ever be forgotten. Go easy Bro.

You were number one and were followed by many more brave men and women...From a California Highway Patrol Officer and a proud member of the Law Enforcement community I want you to know that you will never be forgotten....God Bless you and keep the gates open as one day this proud Highway Patrolman and proud United States Marine will some day be with you to meet all the proud heros that have given everything for their fellow man and country....

Rest in peace, brother. You have the unfortunate distinction of being the first law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty. Too many have followed, prayerfully, none will be forgotten.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

You are remembered today by a mother of a fallen officer. My son, Larry Lasater died when shot on April 23, 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers while serving with the Pittsburg, California Police Department.

Constable Quimby, your sacrifice is not forgotten. Rest in Peace. Your memory is honored and revered 218 years after your death and will continue to be as the first law enforcement officer killed om the line of duty. Unfortunately, many thousands of more deaths have followed.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Darius gave to his community and the citizens of New York, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 3, 1791.

I cannot imagine what this country was like so close to its beginnings. But I can see an honorable man, doing his part to protect the citizens and, upholding the law of a young country. Constable Quimby, you have spent well over 200 years walking a beat where you were called. You have sadly, been joined by thousands of others to work that same beat. Some day, we will meet and I will shake the hand of a hero.
