Saul,

I will always remember being in your academy class and what a truly GOOD man you were. I remember graduation day and meeting your wife and your beautiful kids! Now I am a firearm instructor in my agency and talk about you every training session. I promise we will pass on the lessons we have learned from your sacrifice so that it will not happen again.

I pray for you brother and your family, take care, and rest easy, I hope that I can serve with half as much honor as you have.

Hello Saul thinking of you and your family, saw a news story of you just a bit ago about the trial and looks like your killer will be sentenced to life w/o parole. your death was very close to home for me for 3 reasons: 1, you were the first officer killed after my brother 2, and for it to happen just days later 3, and for it to happen in a neighboring county. You are missed though you may be gone your spirit is still wiht your family, freinds and co-workers.

MiAmigo - It has been a year now, and I still think of you daily.

I think often of our chats, the spanish lessons and you calling me "Ricardo" the way you did.

You will always be remembered in my heart.

Dear Saul,
On this last nite of the year, we still remember you and the tremendous
sacrifice you paid. I know you are at peace with our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. May God comfort all those who are grieving your passing.
Life is difficult at times and the Lord Jesus wants to help carry our
burdens. He gives us many beautiful promises in His Word to help us
through our valleys. I pray you will feel His presence and know His
peace. Thank you for your service, dedication and mostly, your
sacrifice, Saul. We ache from missing you.

Saul,

I want you to know that you touched my life with your quiet humility and your dedication to the American dream. I enjoyed the time we spent talking during those long winter nights when you first started at Chelan P.D. I took pride in your work ethic when you made corporal. When I left the sheriff's office I was concerned that no one would be there to be a link to the Spanish speaking community. When I found out that you finally became a Chelan County Deputy my concern was resolved. I knew that you have taken one more step in your fulfillment of your life's purpose.

When my wife told me you had been shot. I was floored. How could such a thing happen in sleepy little Manson? How could somone whom we both knew, think that a ticket for driving while suspended was worth more than your life? I have arrested people for much worse and never had to fight with them much less have them try to kill me.

I think I could I have done more to get to know you and your family. I know that your killer made his own decisions but I wonder if I could have done more during the time that I knew him to ensure that he decided not to turn on you on that trafic stop.

Why are you now gone from this earth and why I am still here? Why does you sweet wife have to be a widow and your children fatherless and why mine still have me? I cannot see how your boys need you an less than my children need me. I cannot understand why during my ten years in the north detachment of the Chelan County Sheriff's Office my life was preserved. Why you were taken with just over six months working as a deputy?

I keep your picture on my dresser and I look at it every morning when I put on my uniform and every night when I take it off. It reminds me to be a little kinder to my wife and children and a little more thankful for another day of life. You taught me several lessons while I watched you work but the greatest lesson of all you taught me with your death.

You are not foregotten.

Dear Deputy Saul,
It is so sad to come to this site and see all the officers down. And it rings closer to home when it is someone from Washington State.
According to your friend Scott Lawrence you are with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do, but what He did for us!! AMEN! Thank you for your fine example to those that worked with you and knew you. There is now a huge void that cannot be filled, but as you are remembered, thoughts will turn to your exemplary life and we will be filled with pride and respect
and love for the man you became. You were a wonderful testimony to the Lord you served. God be with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come.

I met Saul recently as part of a detail sent to assist Chelan PD & SO during their Memorial Day festivities this year (2003). A mild manner man with a great sense of humor. Very well loved by his co-workers from both Chelan PD & SO. Saul was known for being late to roll call almost daily, but he never minded the ribbing he received. I only knew him for a short time, but he will be remembered for eternity. God bless you, Saul; God will watch over your family.

Once in awhile a special person comes along and touches everyone that meets him -- you were that person Saul. We sent you on many calls, and you went without question. People called in often and only wanted to talk to you -- I think because you were truly one of those officers that cared. You were highly respected by everyone in the department -- and you will be missed by all of us. May you truly rest in peace Saul.

And to your family -- they will forever be in our thoughts and prayers.

When we would be on stand by at the High School Football games Saul would stop by and visit with us. He would just shake his head a say "Soccer" and then walk back to his patrol car and off he went. I will always smile when I think of him at that time of year. Thanks for sharing your spirit with us.

I am soi saddened to hear of the death of such a fine, veteran officer. Such a senseless tragedy. I hope that justice is served in this terrible crime. I pray for this officer's family, friends and colleagues. We all share in the grief because we are all family of the badge. This shows that no part of police work is "routine", especially a seemingly low risk traffic stop.

He now walks a beat in Heaven with St. Michael. God Bless and be safe out there.
