Dear Law Enforcement Family,

I am devastated for your loss. I cannot imagine what you are all going through. I am the wife of a police officer and I pray each night that my husband comes home to me. His last words to me before he leaves for work is, “I love you and I’ll be home.” I pray he is able to keep his word.

God be with you and your family.

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

Throughout the years I saw Deputy Gallegos around town and had a sense that he was a great and caring man. And reading articles and listening to stories the last few days has proven what I always thought. It was devastating listening to the events last Thursday on my scanner. I have cried many tears for his family and for our community. My prayers to all who loved him.

Saul, From the first time I met you, when you were before me on your Oral Board I knew you were a a man of compassion, strength, and, character. I have since learned that you were a man of God. To the family, friends and co-workers of Deputy Gallegos,

I can not imagine the depth of your pain. I know there are not words that can take away that pain. My heart is heavy for your loss and that has lead me to pray for you. My prayer is that you will have the strength to carry on one day at a time, to rely on the support of the people around you. I have read the comments of the people who knew Saul personally. Not only do you have the comfort of knowing he was well liked and respected, most of all he was a child of God. Above anything else take comfort in that. He is in a wonderful place having the time of his life.

I never met Saul but after this tragedy I read about him. I am always curious of the testimony of ones life. When I read that Saul was a believer and follow of Jesus I know he ran the race Christ set before him. "Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." Hebrews 12:1-2
None of us knows when our time is up on earth. We could die in the line of duty or in our sleep. The question is where are we going from here?

Saul,

I will miss you! Your smile and soft caring personality always made me feel welcomed. Learning bike patrol with you was so much fun, I was proud to ride with you and felt very honored to have known you as a friend and co-worker.

Your love for your family was beautiful, you were so proud of your boys and wife. Hand in hand you walked the streets of Chelan with those boys, so proud you were, it shined from your face~ What a lucky man~

My heart breaks for those you left behind, but I do know that you are with God and that gives me peace. I thank God for giving all of us at the Chelan Police Dept a chance to know and love you. We are truly a family and you were a very large part of our family. I know I was the silly sister at times, but truly I knew the friend I had in you, I knew I could come to you with what ever I needed, THANK YOU FOR THAT!

Our last talk was so wonderful and I will never forget what you told me. We were talking about missing our parents who had passed, I asked you if you believed they were around us or seeing what we did in our lives? You said to me; Yes, I feel my Mother near me all the time. We talked about God and what it would be like to be the one who had died and was watching over our loved ones. Now I know God gave me that time with you as a sweet gift to remind me you will be watching over us all. Now you walk with your Mom and those who have passed away that you loved. I pray for your family, I pray for those who were touched by your passing to look deep in their own hearts at how important a hug, smile, or kind word can heal hearts that are hurting. You did well Saul, you will always be my friend and I will never forget the loving son, husband, Father, brother and friend you were. Till we meet again~

Love in Christ,

Julie AKA The chalk queen of Chelan~
