Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Correctional Officer Darla Kay Lathrem

A heartfelt "thank you" for your dedication and commitment to your family, community and last but not least your lasting impression on your "brothers and sisters in blue." Although none of us can fill your foot steps, we are all challenged to strive to make a difference and leave a positive impression on all the lives we touch through out our careers. May you rest in peace, Sister Lathrem , and sing proudly with the angels.

I used to work at CCI and know what you all go through. God bless and stay safe.

A Brother Warrior has fell and died today in battle.

This Brother Warrior has made the ultimate sacrifice.

He has given his life for his Fellow Warriors, his family and friends too.

Brother Warrior, pass your sword to us, so we can keep your spirit alive.

You, my Brother Warrior will not be forgotten.

God Bless you, your family and your friends.

We honor and respect all of the Fallen Warriors who have gone before us.

We ask you, Brother Warriors to guide us, protect us and pray for us.

We will meet again my Brother Warriors.

For this time not to fight another battle, but to live in eternal peace.

God bless all of the Warriors, past, present and future.

Darla, You are never far from our thoughts and prayers. It is now 4 1/2 months since you left our physical presence. You are missed every single day. Your passing has made a tremendous impact on so very many people in so many ways. I hope that the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Daniel Starks from the Fort Myers Police Department can find comfort in knowing that you were there to help welcome him to his new beat in Heaven when he ended his earthly watch this past weekend. Keep watching over us here at Charlotte C.I. as our own Guardian Angel.

Correctional Officer's Farewell

We all know it can happen,
When we put our Colors on.
It only takes an instant,
Then one of us is gone.

Day to day we walk our beat,
In God we put our faith.
‘Cause we’re the law inside the wall,
We keep the Public safe.

You’ve done the job that few can do,
Your shift is at an end.
Farewell my Sister, Rest in peace,
On you we could depend.

To the family, friends and coworkers of C.O. Lathrem:

I'm so sorry to hear about this senseless tragedy. The way that she died showed what kind of people she was protecting the community from, and she was truly a hero. God bless and comfort you during this difficult time.

Darla's passing has left a void in the hearts of all of us, no matter how well we knew her. I pray that the Lord will help ease the pain that void leaves. We must all remember that Darla would want this tragedy to somehow become positive in helping all of us to be there for each other for comfort and support. We must all strive to be there for each other as we slowly go from tears to smiles as we remember her and not the ultimate sacrifice she made. We will remember the wonderful person she was. I hope we will all be better for having known her, even for a short time. She will truly be an angel watching over Charlotte C.I. I hope Darla's family can find comfort in knowing how much she was loved by others, as well as her family. Darla, may you smile down upon us from your well deserved place in the Kingdom of Heaven. You will never be forgotten.

Dear Darla,

We have never met, but you are my sister as a fellow Corrections Officer and in Christ. The connection is apparent, but I also shared the same birthdate as you also, 03/24, except that I am 4 years older. Your death has helped me appreciate the life I have. It should not be taken for granted, who knows what tomorrow will bring. May God bless and comfort your family.

Darla,
From the first time I meet you at the Academy, I knew you
were a good person. Every time you saw me you would ask
me how my leg was, how was I feeling, you always showed
true concern. I feel cheated that you were taken from us so
soon. I know you are in a better place now and I am
a better person from having had you as a friend.
God be with you and with your family. You will be on my mind
and in my heart till we meet again.
