Reflections for Sheriff Willie McKinley Winningham

Thank you for your service and please know that your sacrifice is one that will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren. Rest in peace always.

Sheriff Winningham: I thank you and honor you and your family for your sacrifice to the various communities in which you and your family so heroically served. Few law enforcement families have suffered such loss in such a short period of time. Thanks for serving your community, even after suffering the loss of your father and brother. You and your family bring honor to our great profession. We carry on in the memory of men/women such as you who sacrificed to make this great country safe--you did so much, in such a small amount of little time on earth.

James Lopey, Assistant Sheriff (Ret)
Washoe County Sheriff's Office (Reno, Nevada)

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 76th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 7
2 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I cannot even comprehend the magnitude of grief your mother had to endure in losing her husband and her two sons in the line of duty. No one should have to pay this high a price. For your wife to then take up your mantle and become the first female sheriff in your jurisdiction was an amazing testament to how your family stood for law and order in your community.

I just read the information about your murder while performing your law enforcement duties. About three months prior to your murder, your dad and another brother were killed doing police duties in a different jurisdiction. Thanks to your family for the willingness to do this dangerous job and for a great sacrifice for one family.
God bless each of you.

Rest in Peace Brother...you are not forgotten
