Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Ryan Eugene Cappelletty

Your birthday is right around the corner... Still think about ya every time I look in the back yard. You helped me cut down the big tree so that we could plant a new sapling, which is now bigger than the tree we cut down. You'll be in our hearts forever.

I read about you today after seeing a post on facebook from a friend of mine who was related to you. I am sorry to hear about the tragic circumstances that led to your death. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your surviving family members and surviving coworkers as they reflect on this tragic anniversary. Rest easy brother.

Hi Cappa,

I can't believe it's been 9 years since that tragic day that you left this earth and went onto heaven. I think about you so often and remember all of the fun times we had together. I still remember you and I becoming friends with our big glasses. :) And I remember you calling me telling me about how you met this amazing woman, Rachel. I loved dancing at your wedding. :) You were right about so many things... You'd really love my husband Blaine. He's a good one, like you. I think often about how our kids (I have one now, Lucia) would be playing together and would be great friends just like we were. I know that you would love being an uncle to Rae's two beautiful girls. When I get overwhelmed with the thought of you not being here, I think about how you are such a hero, and that you loved your life and everyone in it. And everyone loved you too, Ryan. I also think about all the high school shennanigans we got ourselves into and I laugh. You really took care of all of us then. You were always so nice and kind to everyone you met. There are so many things in life that make me think of you, and I can't help but smile when I do. While your life was way too short, it was full of love. You and Rachel were such an amazing couple, and I know that you were truly happy. I really wish that I could call you and talk, but I know that you are watching over all of us. Missing you Ryan.

Today, Ryan you are remembered with sadness, because this is the day you were called to glory. I also remember you with joy, having met your dear parents, grandparents, and family. How you loved life. Quiet, shy..listening. When you spoke you had everyone's attention. Caring, kind, happy in your life's profession, happy in your marriage to Rachel, happy with life. Today, I remember all these things, and in remembering them..I remember you.

Ryan talked to me in a dream about 15minutes ago. I was very disappointed when i woke up, because I was not able to talk with him in this world. I met Ryan in middle school 18 yrs ago and it seems like only yesterday. Being wrapped up in my own life, I haven't thought of Ryan in years. I do remember him being the nicest guy, with high moral character, and a great sense of humor. He was a great friend and a honorable man; I consider myself privileged to have known him.

We will always remember you, Ryan, with a smile. Hard to understand the 'why's' of it all even 8 years later. You gave your all '...a man who gave his life for a friend.'

To Ryan's family, friends and fellow Chesterfield officers: the tragedy of eight years ago changed our lives forever. Our friend, family member and colleague was taken all to quickly from us, leaving us his cherished memory and never ending smile and positive attributes that make our hearts hurt that he's not physically with us today. At the same time, we all have a guardian angel with a heart bigger than anyone can imagine to watch over us. God Bless us all!

May always brings back so many negative memories, and so many tears. I'll never forget the phone call when I learned of your death. Who would have ever known, as we hung out so many times, that your life would be so short. So many years later, I still question whether this all really happened.

We think of you often, and pray for your family each time. My sadness is for those closest to you that must live with the pain each day. As we watch your parents, wife and sister try to find their lives without you. One single moment and the choice of one person can change so many lives and so many times it seems unfair.

May we always remember to cherish the good memories (like when you and Rachel went to the Halloween party as a priest and a hooker), and may your life remind us that each moment is precious. I'll never understand.
