Reflections for Police Officer Ryan Eugene Cappelletty

I was on South Ridge Dr this morning and as usual the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. I never had the pleasure to work with you but it was pressed into our minds while in the academy who you were and of your tragic incident. I think of you and Gary Buro often and because of you I am extra careful. Every time I am on South Ridge I get this weird feeling and know that you are there protecting your fellow brothers. Ryan I want to thank you for your service and let you know there isn’t a shift that goes by I don’t think of you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the sixth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Vividly remembering what we went through almost 6 years ago as I stood on the streets of Oakland watching your Brothers gather for yet another tragic event. I miss you and think of you everyday. Thank you for all that you gave. I will love you always.

Ryan,

We think about you often... It's shocking to visit this page and remember that you were only 23. We keep in touch with Rachel, you would be proud of her and her new little boy.

Thinking of you especially today as I read about a situation that occurred in Pittsburgh that reminded me of the one that took your life.

You were such an awesome person Ryan. I heard a woman who lost her husband and children say that she has to remember that it was a blessing for the time that she had and that is how she lives through the sadness - thinking of the time we had. The time we had was good.

With lots of tears,

I think of you every time another officer falls. When it happens again I do the only thing that I can do to support your memory and other families. I tell someone about the C.O.P.S organization and about the O.D.M.P. page. Both organizations help to make the tragedy more bearable.

Ryan, I regret never having the chance to meet you in person. We had planned on coming to Virginia to visit you and Rachel after you got settled in, but little did we realize how short your time with us would be. Thank you for loving and caring for my niece. I know she adored you. And thank you for protecting the people of Chesterfield as well as you did. Rest in peace.

Ryan,
In another month, we will once again gather in Platte River State Park, for another family reunion, in Nebraska. I will always remember, that you were part of that first gathering. In fact there were alot of first's for you. First time to fly, and to Nebraska! First time to meet Rachel's Nebraska family, first time for pitch! I have thought about you, and remembered you, over the years. It still seems like yesterday, when you were married, and the Nebraska family, arrived to meet and greet your loving family, in Erie. We are happy for those times. Those memories, as we never know when we won't be making anymore memories. Your courage is showing us the way. Your attitude toward others, and the way you made each day count!Ryan we continue to miss you, and we will never forget you!

I was thinking of my time in VA today and Ryans face came to mind. He is thought of every day all across the country even 5 years later...I'm sure even 20+ years down the road. What a good man. My thoughts and prayers with Rachel, the other recruits and beloved families. I often wonder how lives have changed as I am out of touch now. I know he's watching over everyone.
