Another hero in blue is gone but will never be forgotten. I am a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a police officer also. Officer Hardesty had obviously loved this country to put his life on the line in the military adn then give his life as a police officer.

He is a hero and a patriot in everyway imaginable. May the good Lord provide comfort for the ones that he served, protected and ultimately gave his life for. May we never forget the sacrifices that he made in his pursuit for a better world.

Semper Fi Marine we have the watch now!!!!!

You will not be forgotten..........

Dear precious family and friends,
As you have found there are no words that can be spoken or read that will comfort and though many of us have walked the same path you are now on we still can't come up with the "right" words. We are heartbroken for you that now you live without your husband, daddy, son, friend, brother. We are now your extended family and we want to help you through this storm. We will stand beside you and be here for you.

Rest in peace hero, your time in hell is done, now you will walk the streets of heaven. My brother in heaven will show you the way.

REST IN PEACE BROTHER. YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN.

POLICE OFFICER
NYPD

I was a TPD officer for almost 5 years. Even though I moved to North Carolina, nothing could make me more sad than to know that a fellow officer has fallen, especially one that I have worked with. I never knew Pat personally, but remember him as the reserve officer who worked the old "Henry" squad in ODM. I'm sorry for the loss to Tucson, its citizens, and mostly to his wife and children. Please know that I hold you closely in my thoughts and prayers. I miss my TPD brothers and sisters more than ever now and wish that I could be there for everyone.

Patrick, you will be missed. Our Chief has said many times we have one of the finest departments in the country - and he is right. Because we have so many brave and fine men (and women) like you working with us every day. You were a very special man, and you made a difference in the lives of those whom you served with and for. God grant you peace, and may His Love for you console those whom you left behind for a time...We will meet again.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premisesof all its undesirables, look with kindly and professionaleyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.

I worked for Patrick Hardesty when he was a 1st LT in the Marine Corps. He was a great boss with a very laid back style. He never got angry and always had a great sense of humor. I kept in touch with him after I got out of the Corps and became a police officer. Pat was a reserve officer in Tucson for years while he was finishing his career in the Corps. Pat Hardesty was a great boss, friend, and police officer. I will always remember his sense of humor and his favorite "Punyer" nickname he called everyone. God Bless him, his family, and the Tucson PD. Semper Fidelis Punyer.

Meriden Police Department

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Patrick be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Hardesty's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Patrick is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Patrick was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Godspeed my brother...

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."
