Hey Jim got to thinking about you today; I was responding to a fire call in my PV; I had my blue light on and this older lady in front of me just stopped in the middle of the road, I had to pass her on the right side to avoid rear ending her. It reminded me of the time we were going code 1 on 29 and the cars in both of the South bound lanes just stopped instead of pulling over and we had to go into the grass median at like 65mph to avoid hitting them. I will never forget how right as you turned to avoid them you yelled damn and then once we got back on the road you just said in the most calm and mono-tone voice "well that was interesting" lol. Also im testing for IDOC here soon so hopefully you will be with me to lend a hand, I will need all the help I can get. Well rest easy my friend and keep us all safe.

Hi Jim:
Another holiday season has past, without you and your boys.
Hopefully we will see the boys, as the court is nearing a decision on visitation. A couple months ago we got some bad news. The Vet. diagnosed Czar with cancer. She gave him from 6 weeks to 6 months. Well the day after Christmas we had to have him put to sleep. I'm sure he is up there with you now. We had Christmas at Joey and Marys, with
Louise and Marys family. Mom and I miss you so much, we can't believe it is going on 7 yrs. We love you, and hope to see your boys soon.

Jim,
I ran in the Illinois COPS run in memory of you and your sacrifice. Your father did a wonderful job organizing the event and the turn out was great. Rest easy brother.

Jim went to the Gas station the other day and got some nachos(no peppers, lol). Drove past the firehouse in Lake of the Woods and couldnt help but think of all the times during work we would have a nacho and play station break there instead of taking a lunch. Was talking to Jon Blevins the other day after a fire call and we were laughing and talking about the time we were practicing traffic stops in the parking lot and we had you handcuffed and you were pretending to resist arrest and that lady drove by and her eyes got big and she looked at us like why are those kids handcuffing a cop. Anyway Jim rest easy and keep us all safe.

HI JIM:
ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE'VE WRITTEN AND WITH CHRISTMAS AND THE NEW YEAR HERE WE WANT TO SAY HELLO AGAIN. JACOB JUST TURNED 6 ON THE 11th AND OUR CHRISTMAS BOY JOEY V WILL BE 9 ON CHRISTMAS DAY. TIME IS FLEETING BY SO FAST AND WE MISS YOU AND THE BOYS SO MUCH. WE THINK OF YOU AND THEM EVERY DAY. PLEASE WATCH OVER JOEY AND JACOB AS WE DON'T HAVE ANY COMMUNICATIONS WITH THEM. I'M SORRY I'M UNABLE TO KEEP MY PROMISE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM IN YOUR ABSENCE. BUT WE HOPE THE DAY WILL COME WHEN WE SEE THEM AGAIN. WE MEET PEOPLE ALL THE TIME THAT RELATE THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU. AND WE ARE PROUD TO HEAR THEIR STORIES. WELL SON, MOM AND I SEND YOU ALL OUR LOVE THESE CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS. WE MISS YOU MORE EACH DAY.

A Dedication to the Fallen Officer:
A million times we've missed you, A million times we've cried. If love could have saved you, You never would have died. Things we feel most deeply, Are the hardest things to say. Our dearest one, we have loved you In a very special way. We often sit and think of you And think of how you died. To think we couldn't say good-bye Before you closed your eyes. No one can know our loneliness And no one can see us weeping, All our tears from aching hearts While others are still sleeping. If we had one lifetime wish, A dream that could come true, We'd pray to God with all our hearts For yesterday and you.

HAPPY B-DAY JIM. WE ALL MISS YOU. JOEY AND I WERE STOPPED BY A WOMAN THE OTHER MORNING AFTER YOUR MEMORIAL MASS, AND SHE SAID YOU HAD STOPPED BY JUST A MONTH BEFORE YOU WERE KILLED TO LET THEM KNOW THEIR MAIL BOX HAD BEEN BASHED IN. SHE SAID YOU WERE SO NICE AND VISITED FOR FIVE MIN BEFORE HEADING ON YOUR WAY. THEY STILL THINK OF YOU, AND ARE SADDENED BY THE LOSS. IT IS REALLY NICE TO KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE STILL REMEMBER YOUR PRESENCE WHILE ON EARTH. WATCH OVER JOEY & JACOB. KEEP THEM HAPPY, HEALTHY AND SAFE. PLEASE, PASS ON TO THEM OUR LOVE AND WE HOPE TO SEE THEM SOON.
PEACE AND LOVE.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jim,
Its been awhile since I left a message here just thought I'd let you know everything is still going good and we all still miss you. The things you taught me in explorers have made me a better person and I will one day carry them into law enforcement, there is not a day that goes by that I dont think how diffrent things may have been if I had not called off my ride-along that night, and since that day I try to live life to the fullest. I guess what im trying to say is you were a great mentor and friend and I am forever in your debt for all that you taught me. Rest easy Jim.

Kevin
