Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Aaron Jovon Blount

I did not have the opportunity to meet you, but I have heard great things about you. There is a picture of you that hangs in the roll call room and a book about you in the copy room. The "Thank You's" are few and far in between in this line of work. I want to thank you for the ultimate sacrifice on your last tour of duty.

I REMEMBER YOUR EAGERNESS WHILE YOU WERE IN FIELD TRAINING. YOU RETURNED BACK TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND GAVE YOUR ALL TO THE COMMUNITY THAT RAISED YOU. "YOU"RE THE MAN....I WAS JUST THE MAN STANDING NEXT TO THE MAN!!!" THAT WAS OUR GREETING.
YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

ONE OF YOUR BROTHERS,
RANDOLPH

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I think about you often my friend.

Aaron was a good man and a great cop. At the time I met him I was working private security and alot of police officers in this state tend to look down on security but Aaron was always willing to assist in an arrest and often times would come looking for my partners or myself to find something to do in an effort to clean up the neighborhood. I saw Aaron about three days before he was killed and a little part of myself died when I heard of his death. Every time I put on my uniform I can't help but think of Aaron and the other heroes that have fallen that I either know or are friends and it keeps me ever vigliant to protect myself, other officers, and the public. I learned alot from Aaron and I hope that I can continue to enforce the "Thin Blue Line" with honor just like Aaron did! God bless him and the loved ones that he left behind. Vaya Con Dios Mi Amigo!

I remember our time together in Basic Training; that was a long 8 weeks you had such a big heart and a warm smile a genuine person in every way. We were both from the ATL and you were my battle buddy for life. I was home visiting the family when I heard you were gone and words can’t describe the loss I felt. You will never be forgotten, you have a special place. May God Bless your family.

What you gave was the ultimate sacrifice. The night you were taken from those who loved you was a night I remember as though it were yesterday.

I had only been on the street for 5 months. I was off that night....it was Tuesday. When I was watching the 11 o'clock news with my family, the news anchor broadcast that a FCPD officer had been shot. My stomach filled with butterflies......I got the grapefruit in my throat. My heart sank as I looked into the face of my girlfriend.

I turned on my p.d. radio to listen for any more "real time" information. Just sounded like mass chaos. All I could think is I hope they catch whomever is responsible for this tragedy. And our brothers and sisters certainly did....He was arrested, thank God.

I only knew a couple of our South Side officers and I never had the fortune to meet Aaron. He was special to many and loved by all who knew him. His contributions off duty were admirable to say the least.

I think of his family and friends every time we loose another brother or sister.

A tragic loss indeed.....

May you rest in peace my brother.

I met Aaron only briefly throught a very close family member. But I didn't have to know him well to know that he was special to many whom I would never know. My family and I were personally touched by his loss. I am honored to be a member of the family he chose, and to uphold the oath he bravely and unselfishly defended.
Thank you for your sacrifice. You are and will continue to be an inspiration to me.

It hurts me to see that nobody has left a reflection in awhile. To the family, I say hello and hope you are all doing well. I worked with Aaron, while he at the police department. He truly was a great person. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about him and the sacrifice he made. My, brother in law was killed this past year, while serving with the Clayton County Police Department. The National Law Enforcement Memorial was this past week, when all the names are added to the wall. It especially made me think about Aaron.

Aaron,
Our paths crossed at the Coast Guard Academy. You touched many among our class during your stay there and left to serve the public in another way as a GA police officer. I still grieve over the loss of you and Jon, taken away from our class, your family, and the world too soon. We won't forget our warriors, classmates, and friends.

"One life to live, millions to save" my brother.
