Reflections for Sergeant David Paul Land

There is two-wheeled thunder on heavens streets.

RIP Sarge.

DS II R.N. Harp
Fulton County Sheroff's Department

I have known David for the past 5 years, but only really got to know him two months ago when I was assigned to the motor unit. In this time I was amazed at how many people knew and loved David. Everywhere we went there was someone there approaching him like a long lost friend. While this was incrediable to me, it was not all that supprising. Davids personality and love of people was the kind found so infrequently in ones life. Everyone loved David, myself included. There is now a void in the lives of more people than I am able to count.
David, I love and miss you. You were a partner and more importantly, a friend. You will NEVER be forgoten by myself or any of the lives that you touched in your short years.

Rest in peace David.
You gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Sergeant Land for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

David,
You touched my life in ways that you will never know. Thank you for being my friend through everything you knew that was going on. You never let me down. You always knew that a smile was all I needed to brighten my day. You will always be in my heart and on my mind. God gave you to us to leave a very special imprint on our hearts and in our lives. We knew one day that we would have to give you back but, in no way was I prepared for this. I know that God is happy to have you home. Keep 'em laughin' bubba! Love ya mean it!

An friend called today to let me know that Bubba had been in an accident and was no longer with us...somehow it hasn't sunk in yet. I knew Bubba a long time ago, when he was at Stone Mountain Park and through the years hanging out at Mama's together (I can't count the times he let me vent about a boyfriend or cry on his shoulder or made sure I made it home safely!)...and unfortunately we lost touch as our lives changed with marriages and moves. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw him, but I also can't imagine this world without him. He was such an amazing person...he always had a passion for everything he did and a love for all of his friends and family. To all of you who love Bubba, my thoughts and prayers are with you. To his little girl Taylor, you have the best Dad ever, and I know he will watch over you always.

Bubba...you will be missed more than you ever imagined. Although you were taken from us much too soon we know that you are in a better place. The one thing that I will miss the most are the big ol' hugs that you would give me everytime I saw you. One day I will get another hug from you. Just be sure that you have the Uno cards ready because we will play again. Thank you for being my friend.

IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO MEET DAVE, YOU WERE BLESSED. THERE IS NO BETTER MAN THAT I'VE MET. YOU ALWAYS KNEW WERE YOU STOOD WITH DAVE AND I WILL MISS SEEING HIM EVERY MORNING AND WATCHING THAT UGLY GOLF SWING THAT HE LOVED SO MUCH. MY HEART WILL NEVER BE THE SAME BUT I KNOW ONE DAY HE WILL MAKE ME SMILE AGAIN.

DAVE,
YOU WERE A GREAT FRIEND, FATHER, HUSBAND AND POLICE OFFICER AND I AM PROUD TO CALL YOU MY FRIEND FOREVER. MY SON LOVES YOU AND I WILL MENTION YOU TO HIM FOREVER.

NEVER GOOD BYE,
BUT SEE YA LATER BUBBA,

YOUR FRIEND,

DETECTIVE JONO AGURTO

David,
I first met you while you moved into your apartment with Paula. You touched my life more than you will ever know. I loved, respected and admired you from day one. You never failed to make me laugh with your quick wit. And, to make me smile with that infectious smile of yours’. You made the kids in the neighborhood so happy when you drove by on your motorcycle and “Bweep bweeped” the siren. I loved to see you out walking the dogs after work. We used to all stand around and talk and laugh. Boy, do I miss it. It was such an inspiration to see your never ending love for Paula and your boundless patience with Taylor. I was so happy for you and Paula when you guys bought a house. And, got married.
I will see you in heaven and we’ll race. You ride your motorcycle and I’ll ride my red, three-wheeled scooter. There is a David shaped hole in my heart that will never be filled. Your friendship was like a diamond; very precious and very rare. I will NEVER forget you.

Paula,
I cannot say, “I know exactly what you are going through”, because David was my friend and he was your everything. No one will have the right words to make the pain go away. You were and are my friend, too. My heart is broken for you. I want to ALWAYS be there for you and just listen. Call me anytime; day or night. I Love You.

Taylor,
Don’t ever doubt how much your Daddy loved you. I saw you kneel in front of the casket and cross yourself the night of the viewing (Thursday night). You are a special 6 year old. You made, and continue to make you Daddy proud. Never forget how much Mrs. Paula loves and needs you.

I never met Officer Land, but our paths crossed twice a day.
Always a smile and a wave for me and my son at 8:00am, and a smile and a wave at 5:30pm. You could just tell by his presence that he was a special person. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

My son and I still wave everyday. You will be missed.

OUR FALLEN BROTHER

Sgt. David P. Land, there is no other
O, how we miss Our Fallen Brother.
His eyes that sparkled with a smile that shined
If only we could turn back the hands of time.
He waved and smiled to all those he passed
He played his jokes, to make everyone laugh.
He was the one who would go the extra mile
He was are true 'American Idol'
If going to daycare had a child in tears
He would make them smile and calm their fears.
A father and husband, with a heart so true
A friend and an Officer that we all knew.
Our broken hearts with time will mend
It was an honor to have such devoted friend.

Bubba...you will be deeply missed. I'm not sure that you ever knew exactly how you affected the people that you came in contact with. I do know that those of us who knew you count ourselves lucky. I will miss your smirky smile but most of all I will miss that big ol' hug that you greeted your friends with. I know that one day we will see each other again and I will get another one of those hugs. Just be sure to get the Uno cards ready because we will play again! I never got the chance to meet Paula but she and Taylor are in my prayers. I know that you will be watching over them because I know that they were your priority. I just wish that I could tell you how much your friendship meant to me. You were an extraordinary person. I will miss you.

Bubba was my friend during High School & College and my adult years. He was such a wonderful, kind, friendly person. I know that there is so much going on right now and I'm sorry we never got to say good-bye. You will never be replaced. I love you. "Kimbo"

It's obvious by the prior reflections that Sgt. Land was one heck of a guy (after all, anyone called Bubba can't be all bad!!). It will never make sense as to why this tragedy had to happen. I will add his family, friends and co-workers to my list of prayers. The next couple of weeks will be tough on everybody, but, eventually you will smile when you say his name and all the funny stories will be told again. I still think about our fallen officer everyday and I just hope that George is showing Sgt Land the ropes and both are watching over us all.
