Bubba,
I went out to The Park Sun.. It has changed so much alot of things for the family to do.I went and talked to Nick Bird, he really misses you. As well as the Department they have a nice memorial plaque. In the hall wayof the public saftey building. This the nicest thing I have ever seen as a memoral for any body. I called Shelly and told her to tell mom and dad. I even told Lauren to take Taylor to go see it. There is a super poam. on the top right side that made me cry. They even have a all the patches from all three departments. That was cool to me.You would be prode Bubba. I finally went to the laser show. Like you told me I needed to do along time ago.It was awsome!! I rememered you the whole day I was there. My girlfriend Debbie was there and told me she wished she could have meet you.
I'm even try to put a golf tournment together. The plan is to have it at Laurel Springs where you once worked. Igoing to talkto them Thurs. The money raised is going to Taylors college fund. This something thats layed heavy on me. Mom,Dad and Shelly are going to help that makes me feel good as well I wouldnt do it any other way.
Bubba look down on all of us as we go threw life.Your always on my mind. And in my heart. As well I know your in everybodys hearts and mind. LOVE YOU MAN!!!!

Dear Son,

I have waited until now to tell you how much you are missed. Telling you before would have not worked because, quite frankly, it would have been too hard. Also, I wanted to tell you how proud we are of you, thousands of people came to pay respect to you. Our hearts were filled with pride knowing you had touched so many people in you life. Of course, you already knew that becasue you were there, Mom and I could feel your presence. We can still feel you from time to time, so please stick with us, as we need your help. That is enough for now. Knowing we will all be together again helps, we will try to live the type of life to insure we will be together again. We pray to Christ and our almighty father everyday to keep your family well, especially Taylor and your Mom. Son you were and are loved beyond measure. Take care and watch over us.

Dad

David,

We just want you to know that we are very proud of you for all that you accomplished and achieved since we first met you. As Paula's parents, you can imagine how we worried about this man who would wed our daughter. You made the grade! You did what your heart told you to do and you made Paula very happy. We could not have expected anything more. As a devoted husband and active member of our Jewish faith, you followed all the traditions and commandments of God's chosen people. You taught Taylor how to love and accept everyone. We are saddened by the tragic event that took your life but know you are apart of our lives now. We will take care of Paula always. She misses you terribly but we know you want her to move on when she can knowing you are still with her. She will continue to make you proud and set the standards for others to follow.

Sergeant Land,

I mourn your loss; the loss of your life, the loss to your community, the loss to your comrades, and certainly the loss to your family. I hope that if you did not have the opportunity to know St. Michael in this cruel world that you are getting to know him in Heaven.

I am saddened that your death was the result of yet another fatal motor vehicle accident. Far too many of us are killed by one of our most useful tools. It is ironic that we frequently survive all the domestics, traffic stops, search warrants, and other recognized dangers, just to be felled by our own “shop” or "motor."

An old sergeant once told me that he did not fear dying from smoking, eating poorly, no sleep, or hoodlums – because his Crown Vic would get him first. That is not intended to be a joke, just a pragmatic view of what is sometimes the sad truth. I believe the old sergeant's opinion is as correct for those like you who serve on "sleds" as it is for us who serve in "cages."

God bless your eternal soul.

David,
Your brothers in Special Operations sure did miss you this past Memorial Day, as we were working the weekend. Memorial Day we did remember the good and fun times that we had. David, it is not the same without you here with us working the dreaded holiday. While working I could feel that you were watching over us, as we made it though the holiday without any major incident. Please continue to watch over us, and keep us out of trouble.

This man was one of the finest men I have ever met. DP as he was affectionately known, was a giant man. Always had a smile on his face, and something good to say about anyone.
He was truly a hero ....

On this Mother's Day, I would like to send my prayers to Bubba's mom, Linda. I know he loved his mother with all his heart. I know he is with you on this special day. Without you, Bubba could not have touched so many lives the way he did. You did such a great job raising him to be the man he was.
We all love you Bubba and think of you daily.
Love,

David...... I know you are up there watching over all of us and protecting us. It is a day by day thing without you around. I can still picture you coming into dispatch and asking how your girls were and giving us all hugs. Being married to a fellow deputy, i have no possible idea what Paula is going through but I pray for her. I don't know if I could be strong enough. There won't be any new boat patrol stories Jason can tell me this year...... Bubba we love you and miss you dearly and I know you will always watch over Paula and Taylor. They were your life! To Paula...... Jason and I love you and keep you in our prayers.....If you need us just call

We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name.
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part
God has you in His keeping
We have you in our Heart.

Dear David,

This is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. This letter comes from your loving wife, Paula. When they came to tell me of your accident I was in shock and just believed that you were at a hospital. Not to worry, I would take care of you whatever that meant. I knew that when we married it was forever and in sickness and in health. Unfortunatley, there was absolutely nothing I could do to help you or save you. What was I to do? Of course Taylor was with me, as she had come to live with us. My first thought as a "mother" to Taylor was how to tell her and what could I do to keep her from hurting? How could I carry out "our" wishes and dreams for her without you? When I married you I also married Taylor. Not having her in my life has just compounded my grief for you and this trajedy. I promise I will be as much a part of her life as I am allowed to. Several people have told me that she will be okay not to worry because she has a lot of her daddy in her. This is true and you need to know that. As for me, I have lost my everything. At first I was mad at God for allowing us to get married. How quickly I have changed my attitude. God gave you to me and my life was and is truly blessed because of you. I love you yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I will try to be strong and remember the love that we have for one another. I know our love is genuine and had this trajedy not occurred we would grow to have children and grandchildren just as we spoke when you proposed. I will see you again and I cannot wait to be in your arms and kiss you.

I AM MY BELOVED AND MY BELOVED IS MINE.

I had the pleasure of being David Land's Sergeant on the motor unit and rode next to him for a few years. I can't begin to express what type of officer David was. As you read these other reflections they just barley begin to touch how wonderfull a man David is. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to spend time with David and learn from him. It made me a better person. Go rest high on that mountain, cause your work on earth is done. I will truly miss you.

Lieutenant Paul K.Whitfield
Forsyth County Sheriff's Office

David,

I will never forget the first words you spoke to me...in the hallway my senior year of high school at North Forsyth High...you were such a goofball and I love you more than you will ever know. I am glad to know that Taylor got to live with you and Paula for the last six weeks of your life...God gave her to you guys for that reason and for that I am thankful. I love Paula and will always be there for her to lean on. Knowing you made my life a little easier and just thinking about you and the day you told me I needed to "broaden" my horizons makes me crack up on the inside. I love you brother, and I miss you terribly. I know that when I do finally get on the road that you will be with me every step of the way. And yes I am going to keep selling that Mary Kay, just as you instructed me to the last time I saw you! :) Will see you some day up there! God bless your family and the rest of your friends......
