GA NATIVE

Everyday we get dressed, like gladiators of old, we strap on our equipment and are ready to do battle. With death tugging at our elbows everyday, we become numb.
Until the day . . . .

Graveyard, it was a quiet Tuesday morning. The normal radio traffic for that Tuesday morning was slow and sporadic. Suddenly, it all changed. Just like that! In a blink of an eye, it all changed. The dispatcher frantically calling for Baker 35. Deputy Keene’s crackling voice calling for a supervisor. My arrival to an array of blinking blue, amber and red lights. As the dawn broke, I could see the fireman working around the crushed black and white. My heart sunk . . .

I watched as Dennis walked up the embankment, he had that look, he looked at me and slowly shook his head. I recognized that “look,” Mike and Jim, George, John, Eric and now Brent. . . . that “look” I know it all to well.

Brent was a fine man and a good deputy. He was easy to laugh and always had a sly smile on his face. However, he took his job seriously, he was a cop.

I don’t know why God took him so early, with so much yet to do as a husband, a father, grandfather and crime fighter. With so many battles yet to fight, we now must to do so with one less smile and one less courageous man. Brent you will be missed, I will miss you Brother.

The day I got a chance to work an overtime shift with you recently, was enjoyable. We had pleasant conversations, simply about life. It was a pleasure to look at the wallet size photo of your family. I could tell then, what your priorities were. Even though I met you just the one time, I'm going to miss you. You're now in the hands of the ultimate cop. May you rest in peace.

Deputy Jenkins,

What a glorious service for you today 3-22-03. Your family is just so wonderful. Your kids are so proud of you, and from what was said at the service you sure did love them and took pride in them. They in return have made you proud today I am sure. What a great man you were here upon this earth. What an example you have been to your fellow deputys and fellow church members. They all spoke of how you always had the Light of Christ with you at all times. We know Brent that we will all be together again, and your family is an Eternal one.

This doesnt make this any easier. But with their faith in our Heavenly Father they will strive to do what is right your family will soon be right by your side. Your little Brittany is just a joy, she is pure and innocent and loves you so much, she touched me in the little time I saw her that I will never forget her. She told the Caption when he came to give the sad news about your passing that you wore the same uniform. That if he waited for a little while he could see you in it if he just waited for you to come home.

Her handicapp is not her weakness, it is her strength. She knows more then any of us where you are. She is the closest to you then we can ever be. Your son's stood up and praised you along with your son-in-law. They knew what you stood for and that was a great legacy you have left your wife. May the Lord BLESS your family in this great and sorrowful time.

As a fellow wife of a Sheriff Deputy my heart goes to you Mrs. Jenkins. As a sister in zion, my prayers follow also. My love and thoughts go out to your family and fellow friends.

Deputy Jenkins watch over my husband and the fellow deputys and officers that they will return safely to us. And if they cant then please be there to welcome then to the golden gates of Heaven, and watch over them until we meet again.

Fellow RSO Wife
Riverside County Sheriff

It breaks my heart to see another officer taken as Adam was. The blue line has gotten thinner today, but heavens streets have one more brother in blue to welcome.
To Mrs. Jenkins there are no words that I can say that will help you. I wish there were. All I can do if offer my heart felt sympothy to you. Some one wrote on Adams reflection that we not only have our families we see everyday, but those who have been in our shoes. Adam and I had looked at property to buy and build our dream house on the day he got killed. He was and always will be my soulmate. So, to help me through the roughest time of my life I find myself getting closer to God and visiting the ODMP telling wives, finance', and girlfriends of fallen officers that we are a family just as our police family is. Life will be forever hard. I have a two year old son who still catches me off gaurd when he asked why Adam is in heaven and why can't we go see him. I still try hard to keep myself together somedays and others well I just make it through.
To the Sherrifs Office, Your brother will never be forgotten. The world knows he is a hero. We all know that those of you who protect us everday are very special. You all are one of a kind people who get little respect and hardly paid. To all of you thank you.

Rest in peace, brother...we'll cover the beat, you watch our backs.

Jenks you were one of my best friends! You were always there for me when I asked for you and you always made me feel better if I was angry or sad. You became the dad I never had and always looked out for me. I will miss just hanging out with you and talking though I know you will always be listening. . I know that even though you will be in heaven you will always shine your spot light on my house to check and make sure no harm comes to me, my husband and family. I love you Jenkins and I thank god for bringing you into my life. You were one of the nicest and finest Deputy our department ever had! YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To all of his family, I am soo sorry for the loss of your husband, dad, brother and son. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. He will always be watching over. Hopefully you know how much Jenkins was loved, liked and respected by so many!!

My sister and i met Jenkins when we joined the explorers at the Banning station about 7 yrs ago. Jenkins was later known as Jenks or Jenkys by me and our family. He was a great man, he was honest, caring, funny, protective, he never judged anyone, and was always there to listen and give advice, everytime he was in our city on watch he would always stop by to say hi, and on days off would play golf with his son at the county club where my mom works. He became a big part of our family and attended with his wife to my sister's wedding. Anyone who knew Jenks was blessed to have him in their lives and am sorrowed to know that we can never see him again. We will miss his smile, laugh, and good sense of humor, but know that he is above watching over all of us once again. Our thoughts and prays go out to his family and friends. We love you always Jenks
