Reflections for Sergeant Danny Thomas Parrish

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 20th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace

I am not the only dispatcher that Danny had and I can't speak for the others but I can tell you what a great officer Danny was. He would go anywhere I would send him no matter what no complaining no whining he would just go! He always loved the excitement of working in the northend where all the crime was going on even when he was told to stay in the southend of town he would always be just across the dividing line between the north and south parts of the city. I can remember when he started as a reserve officer out there every Fri & Sat night putting his life on the line just like all the other men and women out there working those crime ridden streets of Ft. Pierce. He loved it!!!He loved to chase the bad guys on foot. In the beginning of his shift he would call me up and tell me "Carla they have me working the southend tonight but you know that I will be sitting at 13th & Orange if you need me" he would ask me "so how many do you think I will catch tonight on foot" I would tell him "everyone you chase Danny you catch"
Danny tonight on Facebook all your friends and fellow officers were talking about you posting great things about you. Believe me when I say you are so sadly missed by everyone. We know that you are looking down on all of us and protecting us all. Please tell Steve,Jimmy,Cooper,Willie, all the men and women that have left us and there loved ones that they are so truly missed. We will never forget any of you ever.
God Bless all law enforcement all over the world. May they all make it home safe at the end of their shift. Please God look out for them keep them safe.

Danny
I think about you and Cooper and Jimmy and Steve all the time and now with the most recents deaths in Oakland it just brings it all back to me. Another tragedy more lives taken, more families feeling the heartache that your loved ones and friends have had to endure over the years. I know that you are all missing your families and friends and one day we will all be together. Just know that you are not forgotten, just know that you have inspired many men and women to pursue their dreams. You are all heroes in our eyes. We love and miss you all very much.

I was there the night you fell over 17 years ago. I was on a transport from my county when I heard the sirens. I spoke with your SGT after dropping off my transport. I offered any help myself or my agency could give but learned it was too late. I will never forget that night or your memorial service. Your death brought me closer to my shift partners and we vowed not to let anything like that go unpunished if it happened to one of us. You made a difference in my life and career so rest in peace knowing you did. I'm sure there are many more like me whose lives you touched. I look forward to the day that the man that took you from us receives his final punishment. Again, rest in peace, brother.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Cousin and fellow officer, Sergeant Danny Parrish, fell while I served as a U.S. Marine in Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. It wasn't until after I returned that I learned of this tragedy which had befallen my family on that January night nearly two and a half years earlier. Today I am a trainer of new recruits for my law enforcement agency and often reflect with my recruits the events that led up to my cousin's death in hopes they will understand why I demand only the best Officer Safety habits. I try not to get emotional as I speak of the cousin I barely knew from those family reunions in Spincer Indiana; however, the lump in my throat usually makes for a quite ride for the next few moments.
Danny, you and your story live on in Silverton Oregon and are saving fellow officer's lives everyday. I feel you that watch over me and as I take your lead in protecting and serving the public from those who would do as they did to you. You are an inspiration, and so long as I am training new officers they will hear your name and know your story. I have the watch now cousin; rest...

It will soon be 16 years since your end of watch. My hope is the individual who caused all this pain and suffering in your family is finally brought to justice so that they can be at peace. He was allowed to live 16 years more than you, time you could have spent with your loved ones and lived out your dreams. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones, you have not been forgotten nor will that ever be the case. You are a true hero and heroes never die.

Dear Fallen Brother,
I had the honor of meeting your father here in our town recently. Mr. Parrish told me of the story of your life as a son and a police officer. Mr. Parrish said that he missed you very much and said that you served your community, state, and nation to the best of your ability, and that is all he could of asked for you. I may have not know you here on Earth, but I know I will meet you and our other fallen brothers and sisters someday in that distant land with streets paved in gold.

It is tough enough when we lose a fellow officer.
But when we lose a good man in such a senseless and violent way just to see the coward trying to get an appeal and go on living, it just makes no sense.
Officer Danny Parrish, uncommon valor was an everyday virtue for you and you are dwelling in the House of the Lord.
Rest easy, Hero.

Retired police officer.

I read this page and wonder what in the world goes through someone's mind to make them shoot someone 14 times. I mean, my God, why??? I'm saddened to see no reflections for an officer that gave his life in the line of duty at such a young age for such a senseless reason. My God guide those who are overseeing the appeal of this cold-blooded murderer...Officer Parrish didn't get an appeal...and he certainly didn't get 12 years (so far) to say his goodbyes to his family and friends before he was put to death in a quick and virtually painless way.
