To the family and loved ones of Agent Yesenia Nieves-Ruiz and her fellow officers with the Puerto Rico Police Department:

On this the fourth annniversary of Yesenia's tragic death, I wanted to honor and remember her today. Yesenia's professionalism and dedication will never be forgotten, nor will her valor and courage.

I hope that God is holding her in the sweetest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul. No doubt that Heaven has another hero in Yesenia, but I am so sorry you had to lose your beloved. To her parents, I too share your anquish of having lost a cherished child in a line of duty death. May you all continue to be comforted by your faith and your law enforcement family and other police survivors.

I am so sorry that Yesenia was robbed of her life so young and so tragically, but through her heroism and the profound sense of duty with which she lived her life, she made an immeasurable difference. May her spirit continue to soar and may her memory continue to inspire.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Yesenia gave to her community and the citizens of Puerto Rico, and for the supreme sacrifice she and her family made on August 31, 2002.

Ride Along

So you don’t like the ticket I just gave you.
Well, come take a ride with me.
A trip to the scene of an accident.
Where a person now struggles for freedom, and for life.
All because someone was in a hurry, or late for work.

You say you didn’t call me and you don’t need my help.
That this is a family matter and none of my business.
Come take a ride with me.
Where a child now cowers in the nearest corner, or bedroom closet.
They cover their ears and ask god “ please make them stop”.
Still think no one needs my help.

You’ve said all we do is eat donuts and drink coffee.
Come take a ride with me.
On the countless days after taking four calls in an hour.
We think we have time to sit down for dinner.
Only to be call away again.

You think we’re cold and have no heart.
Well, come take a ride with me.
To a place where the pipes now lay to rest.
A brother or sister who gave their life, for someone like you.
A place where tears fall like rain for their family,
For our family, and yes even for you.
Yeah, come take a ride with me.

Some people are so degenerate--- if one has no respect for the people whose uniforms symolize the law, then there is no possibility of them having respect for the law itself...

~~~To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me~~~
When I am gone, release me, Let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while if indeed you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart,
I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll
Hear all of my love around you soft and clear
And when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say,
"Welcome Home"
