Fallen but NEVER forgotten.

One of my all-time favorite recruits "defected" and headed off to El Monte PD, just prior to the death of Investigator Johnston. I never had the opportunity to Investigator Johnston, but I have heard of him, as well as of his son, who now wears an El Monte PD uniform. So, his memory lives on through his son as well as through those who had the opportunity to serve with him.............RIP, Bro !

In loving memory of Don Johnston:
I According to
your son you are with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do,but by His sacrifice on the
cross for our sins. AMEN! And even Don, as wonderful as he was, is still
a sinner in God's eyes in need of a Savior. Thank you, Don, for your fine
example to those that worked with you and knew you. There is now a
huge void that cannot be filled, but as you are remembered, thoughts will
turn to your exemplary life and we will be filled with pride, respect and
love for the man you became. You were a wonderful testimony to the Lord you served. God be with all those who still mourn and may His promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come. I wish I could erase your pain, but Jesus has done that for Don. God bless his family, friends and co-workers who miss him.

I have decorated the outside of my home with blue lights. One of those lights is in your memory to honor you and all those that have dedicated their lives to law enforcement and have paid the ultimate sacrifice. This holiday season you will be remembered here at my home. You will never be forgotten.

I want to thank your son for leaving a reflection at my son Michael's page. I salute you for your determination to pursue your law enforcement career long after others would have given up. You are an example for all of law enforcement when someone talks about bravery. There are times I wonder if I had been a fireman rather than a police officer that my sons would have followed that career and my youngest son would still be here with us and his family. He had two dreams, one was to be a soldier and the other a police officer. He accomplished both of these dreams and as a parent one does not keep their child from their dreams in life. Inv. Johnston, you will never be forgotten and you are a true hero. Keep watch over your family and all those still out on patrol.

you were a good and fair cop, through are few encounters you always played fair, wether it was taking me to jail or having to let me go to commit more mischief, you did what you had to do. R.I.P. anonymous

My dad was a brave man. He loved being a police officer, just as his father was.

Despite severe, daily, physical pain resulting from his gunshot wound, Don remained on the job.

He is a true testiment to will power, strength, and intestinal fortitude.... Something all police officers should possess.

Don was a believer in Jesus Christ, and he is home with his heavenly father.

I thank God for allowing me to be Don's earthly son, and I only hope to be the man and father Don was.

Thank you all for your reflections,

Eric Johnston,

Son of slain Detective Donald R Johnston

My heart goes out to evryone who knew Investigator Johnston on this sad anniversary. Truly, your officer must have been an exceptional person to have found the strength and determination to have survived his attack and to continue working as long as he did. His devotion to duty is an inspiration to us all. May the memories of happier times spent with him ease the pain you feel today. Surely your officer is watching over you still, safe in the arms of our Lord.

OFC. JOHNSTON WAS ONE TOUGH COP IN MY EYES. EVEN AFTER BEING SHOT AND PUT IN A WHEELCHAIR BY A COWARD, HE STILL CONTINUED DOING THE JOB HE LOVED . EL MONTE PD HAS SUFFERED A GREAT LOSS. I AM HONORED TO SAY I KNEW HIM. I KNOW HIS SON ERIK WILL BE JUST AS GOOD A COP AS HIS DAD AND GRANDFATHER. R.I.P.

You are an inspiration to us all. After being disabled, you could have given up and wasted away, yet you overcame your handicap and continued to support your family and serve your community. You are truely a great man.

May God bless you and your family. You will always be remembered by your entire police family as the person you are-A Real American Hero.

To the family of Investigator Donald R. Johnston and the El Monte Police Department , your extended family of Law Enforcement Officers grieve with you during this time. Though our badges are different, our mission is the same. Rest in peace with the other fallen Heroes, my brother. We will continue the fight in your honor.

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
