Just thought of you today - and was wishing that you could be here to enjoy the hunting that you always loved to participate in - shot the big ol' tom turkey dude this fall - knowing that you were looking down gracefully upon me, sitting next to our graceful god and keeper of the heavens. Just know, that as the sun dawns upon this opening day of gun/deer that I will look to the heavens and see you there, ya big cheese, and will then and only then, feel a sense of calm and peacefulness - keep all of us men and women in the woods this week, and always safe from harm. Hoping that all of your family is doing well and continue to look over them as I am sure that you do each and every day!! See ya dude!!

Five years have passed so quickly. Many lives were changed that day. There are too many whatifs. People will always remember where they were that day and wish that they could have done something to prevent this. There is so much hurt on both sides of this tragedy. But we will all get thru it. Time will not heal the wounds, it just makes them hurt less.

I can't believe it has been 5 years. Seems like just yesterday I got the call from Chuck that I'll never forget. I've tried to write so many times but words cannot express the hole in my heart since you've been gone. I miss you so much. You were a great friend and one of the most amazing men I have ever met. You had the uncanny ability to make me see the bright side in any situation & just talking to you made everything all better. I have so many happy memories and can't help but laugh sometimes when I think of our crazy adventures & late night conversations. I remember your trip to CA doing all the fun tourist things, you teasing me about us CA drivers, the trip down to Mexico, & how you missed your plane home. I know you got teased bad about that one but it was hilarious. Christmas hasn't been the same either without the gawdy wrapping paper competitions. Speaking of Christmas; I wonder who has the 5 X 7 of the dogs you took on your snowmobile trip. Whenever I get homesick I still look at the panoramic pictures you sent me of the trees changing colors by the river & the snow on Apache. I really took for granted having you to talk to about our crazy jobs & life in general. I'd give anything just to have you back for a little while or even just to hear your voice. I hope you know how much you are loved because that hasn't changed even though you are no longer with us.

Even though our family did not know you personally, we will remember you and help those left behind get through suffering the loss of a fine officer and someone they loved dearly.

You will not be forgotten.

5 years ago today our County lost you. You were the best. We still miss you and think of you often. As I drove past the S.O. I saw the flag at half mast and the beautiful wreath put at it's foot in your honor and memory. I could see your smiling face at that moment. I could hear your voice. You were and always will be a hero to our community. We love you and miss you Mikee.

Today we pause to remember.
Know that you are not forgotten.
And know also that those who continue to serve do so in your memory.

It has been 5 years since you were taken from everyone abruptly. Kallee and I hear the songs on the radio that remind us of you. She still remembers you. Alot has changed since you been gone. I hope that your family is doing good. We don't get to see them very much and we miss them! Please watch over my brother and keep him safe along with everyone else.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

My friend - though of you today - don't know if it was the music playing on the radio - but none-the-less - Kroetz and Stormoen came into my head and all I saw was the both of them standing watch over the memorial wreath over in Washington D.C. Just wanted to drop you a line always knowing that you still are on my uniform everyday that passes that I put it on and you will never be forgotten. Until I speak at you again - Love Ya man-

from each one of us. It is to let you know, how missed you

Time has passed by, but you and your family should know that you haven't been forgotten. I think of your parents, your brother and his new family, and your fabulous sister so often. I have fond memories, Michael. Your life and your death has made me appreciate my own life and the gifts in it. I'm grateful to you for that. Continue to watch over the officers and deputies out there doing such thankless, but important work. They need it!
