MY ANGEL IN BLUE

As the sun rises to greet a new day,
I pray Lord you will show me the way.

To live life with happiness and glee.
And remember the love that's inside of me.

The love that he shared with his first born son,
and the happiness and pride he gave to him.

Three young grandchildren he had and left behind.
As a hero he died; He was one of a kind.

It's true that everyone will die someday.
But why did he have to die that way?

First time in his uniform, I will not forget.
The day he vowed to serve and protect.

My dear Lord, this is what I beg of you.
Please watch over my Angel in Blue.

Hi Glenn:

I was too depressed to post a reflection on the 6th anniversary of your death. I can do it now. I sure miss you brother, you were and still are an incredibly great man. It is so sad that you left us as you did, so much was left to say and do. I miss you even though I am thousands of miles away now. John and the family sure miss you. Keep an eye on us down here. Talk to you soon.

Your friend always,

John

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

Thinking of your loved ones today and everyday. I know the daily struggles they face without you and the terrible pain within their hearts. God, wrap your loving arms around them and help them with their grief and let them feel your presence.
Your sacrifice has not been forgotten.

To Lt. Glenn Hicks, his loved ones, and his fellow deputies:

On this the sixth anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart is with all family members and friends who call you beloved. They are all in my thoughts and prayers today. I can see from the loving reflections left by your loyal friends and loving family that you were an amazing man who is loved and missed by all those whose lives you touched.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Glenn. I am so humbled by your valor and service.

John, my heart breaks a little each time I visit your dad's page and read your heartfelt reflections. I am drawn to your dad's memorial for several reasons. My son Larry and I were born in Durham, N.C. and Glenn served and protected our home state. Our family understands how important it is for families to see justice rendered. And lastly, because of the beautiful and strong father-son bond you have with your father. When my son was fatally shot during a foot pursuit of two robbers, his wife was pregnant with their first and eagerly awaited child. My adorable grandson Cody was born 2 1/2 months after my son was killed, thus will only ever know his father through pictures, stories, and remembrances. Last week Cody told his mommy that he was playing tag with his daddy in his dreams. I am glad you have so many wonderful memories of good times with your dad and your children with their paw.
Those memories are like precious jewels. You are all in my heart's embrace today.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Glenn gave to his community and the citizens of North Carolina, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 20, 2003.

What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

Glenn you were one of the best Dads in
the world, and we all sure do miss you.
We will never forget the great sacrifice
you made for us all.

Oh Danny BOY

Oh Danny boy, the pipes the pipes are calling,
From glen to glen and on the mountainside.
The summer's gone and all the leaves are falling,
'Tis you must go, 'tis you must go and I must bide !

But come you back, when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hush and white with snow !
Then I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh Danny Boy, Oh Danny Boy, I love you so !

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Oh Danny Boy, Oh Danny Boy, I love you so!

MY DANNY BOY GLENN, WE REMEMBER YOU ON THIS ST PATRICK'S DAY. WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU.
